New Cobra replica unveiled
Absolute Performance C350 is based on DAX Tojeiro
Specialist dealer Sovereign Cars unveiled an exciting new addition to the Cobra replica market at the recent National Kit and Performance Car Show, at Donington.
The Absolute Performance C350 - based on the established DAX Tojeiro platform and powered as standard by a catalysed, fuel-injected 350 cubic inch Chevrolet engine - is being built exclusively for Sovereign Cars of Whitchurch, Hampshire at a new high-tech facility in Coventry by former
F1 engineer Chris Symons.
"Each one will be a brand new car," said Sovereign Cars Managing Director Larry Webb. "It will be supplied - hand-built to the owner's specification from all new parts - complete with a new registration number, an owner's handbook and a warranty, just like any other new car. In fact, the Absolute Performance C350 meets all the emissions requirements for a new car and has already achieved low-volume type approval.
"We have based the C350 on the DAX Tojeiro," Larry continued, " because our experience in selling Cobra replicas tells us this is the best known and most sought-after car in the class."
Sovereign Cars, a leading performance car dealers in the South of England, has been specialising in buying and selling high quality Cobra replicas and other component cars for more than 15 years. "We recognised some time ago that there was a gap in the market for this type of brand new product," said Larry. "When Chris Symons came along with the Absolute Performance project we realised that this was exactly what we were looking for."
Absolute Performance is a new company founded by former Ilmor F1 engineer Chris Symons based on principles of engineering excellence, performance and quality and working to the standards of ISO 9000/2000. Each car is meticulously hand built to a precise specification, right down to the last nut and bolt.
Initially, production will be limited to one car per month. Orders are already being taken and the first customer car will be delivered shortly. Each car will be built for a specific customer and a wide range of options ensures that it will be tailored to his or her individual needs.
Doesn't looklike the usual Chevy engine they stated they were using, more like a Ford as the Dizzy is at the front.
Not sure either about cramming catalictic converters into the side pipes or just off the headers. To operate effetively cats need to get to massivley high temperature and not sure what damage the heat radiating off them could do to other components or your shins if in the side pipes!
I hope they do well and nice to see them using the Dax, though hope they've put some miles to test their set up.
Looks nice, looks expensive. Alternatively do what I did.

Interesting.
Very nice cars built very well (I have seen them)................A bit more expensive than me though.
For the same price I'd supply a De Dion on 18" wheels with a 383 motor producing around 450 BHP......But mine would not have injection or cats.................................Just a ruddy great Holley 750 carb.
Cheers for the plug skid.
You can buy the kit direct from Dax|www.daxcars.co.uk.
As it has been stated, it is only a company who build Dax Cobra's.
It is a company that are involved in selling kit cars, who have now decided to build them!!!
If it was not for the fact that the company spend so much in advertising (within the industry), would they merit so much publicity over the fact they now build?
I can't see it. There are plenty of other builders out there, but do they get the same level of publicity?
Just my opinions.

Forgive me
BUT doesn't Nigel Dean work for Sovreign -
So is he building the cars? and if that is the case is Nigel no longer working for DT @ KC??
No, to the best of my knowledge Nigel just pops in one day a week, he is still employed by Den....
Kinda quiet on this forum without him, for all his faults I still miss his input, if only he could have toned down the rants...........

This gives effectivly 3 ways to get a dax.
In pieces from Dax.
Built up like a kit from Dave.
As a shiny new motor from this bloke.
Horses for courses, as with all things. Personally, I'd build it my self.
Do you know anyother kit that comes built and with a warranty? I am sure Dave's cars are excellent and don't go wrong, and even if they did, Dave would do his best to rectify. But these guys are selling a bona fida piece of paper.

Westfield? Caterham?
I'll bet their warranties are more substancial than the Soveriegn one too.
In fact I would like to believe that any manufacturer selling you a ready built kit, using new components would include a warranty.
Otherwise any company who are registered car dealers can add a warranty to their products. All be it an RAC insurance based warranty, but still a warranty the same as you get with 90% of used cars.

My builds are built with as many new parts as theirs apart from 1 item (The engine block and its main bearing caps. These are used and re machined to get around the fuel injection and cats issue which saves the customer around £1800). In standard spec. my engine supplies an extra 30BHP to the stock injected engine.
All my builds have come with a 12 month warranty for over 2 years now, so nothing new there.
My builds do go wrong occasionally, but from the feedback that I get from my customers I beleive that i'm doing better than TVR. Off the top of my head I think I've spent around £3000 on warranty work over the last 2 1/2 years between over 30 cars. Not bad I don't think @ around £100 per car.
The only thing I don't offer is a hand book, but hey! if you can't find the steering wheel and the hand brake maybe you shouldn't be driving.
I do offer a build portfolio of sorts, I e-mail pictures of the build as it develops.
My builds can(And often do)qualify as a brand new vehicle.

I was unaware warranties were so prevalant. I think it is a really positive thing and should be pushed more in advertising to overcome the "Yes, but it is a kit car" prejudice.
