Well she needs some new boots and it seems there is naff all choice in 225/50/15, what do you chaps recommend?

I'm on Falken Ze-912's at the mo' which i don't rate, the Nakang EX500s i had before were better!

I don't know apart from maybe going to 55 profile? It's a long time since I bought for 15" rims.

One other tip is - if you find a pair of good tyres at a reasonable price - once you've checked they are good - buy another pair straight away! Saves messing about.

Struggled to get some for mine but Toyo TR-1s are a good, if slightly pricey option, Yoko A048's even more pricey and they wear heavily but I have these on my Lotus and they are truely awesome in the dry.

Nexen is a decent Budget option, have run them on the wedge and they proved a good all rounder for very reasonable money.

That is cheap, they were well over £100 a shot last time I checked confused

Yeah I buy them when they're cheap like this (and when I remember) then get them fitted when I need them.

Is anyone running 205/55/15s on their wedge?

My 350i (non power steering) is currently on the original 205/60/15s and the wheels I plan to fit to it have the lower profile tyres fitted.

Apart from the slightly lower gearing (3% by my calculations so not too significant) does anyone know if the steering/ride will feel much different.

I always felt the steering on my 350i was much less sharp than the steering on my previous 280i

I ran that set up for about five years before I sold the car. Gives a better choice of rubber (much better then) feels more planted a slightly sharper; only downside is speed humps.

ISTR my car has always had 225/55/15s, I thought they were standard size. I did in desperation fit 225/60s at one stage to the back when they were all I could find in a hurry; bloody car looked like it had lorry wheels on biggrin

I think I had (or maybe still have!) some oddball cheapo things by Eurotour (408?) - grip average in the dry, entertaining in the wet, wear slower then the half-life of Plutonium and donuts for the asking hehe

After a few outings I think I'll go back to 205/60/15s

There are a few speed humps and garage entrances I'm touching now that I didn't on the higher profile tyres.

Also I found out today than my bowl I use for oil changes doesn't fit under the car any more without jacking it up slightly....

Danny get a couple of planks of wood and leave on the garage floor....

I've run the 350i with 205/55/15's on the front and they were fine. But I kept 60 profile on the back to avoid affecting the speedo.

Do Longstones not offer anything in original size, they are normally quite good for the older, out of fashion dimensions.

I have Nexen on my 400SE and have found them to be fine
and generally paid about £60 each fitted (usually in two's)

On a couple of occasions when they have "broken away" (most usually acceletating hard when the road is gritted)
I have still found they were easy to control

Previously had Vredastines when they were cheaper but don't notice any difference

Cheers

At the risk of repeating myself - Nexen 3000's good - Nexen 2000's bad.... 2000's are harder compound and don't have the grip level. Also they last longer so you are stuck with poor grip for even longer!

Hi

I'll try 60s on the rear only (good suggestion Adam) as the current 55s are nearly bald and leave the fronts for the moment as 55s as they have about 6mm left. Then I should get the best of both worlds hopefully :-)

Yeah and the very slightly lower front than rear gives it a nice "jaunty" look...
