Early last year I sold a new plate from DVLA (11) to someone through the classifieds. I added his details to the V570 as a new nominee. After a week I received an email saying he was unaware that he couldn't put it on any age of car. We discussed our options and agreed that he would try to sell it himself and let me know the outcome. A year later, I've received an extension notice from DVLA.

I've tried to contact the buyer without success. I assume that if I don't extend it will expire and neither of us can use it. On the other hand, not sure why I should spend the £25 to extend for him.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Contact the buyer and tell him you will extend for him if he sends you the £25 first. Job done.

It isn't your plate anymore. Contact them once more but after that forget about it (and yes, it will expire)

If you are the grantee, but not the nominee do you not still own the right to use the plate?

I have a problem with a plate that the nominee is me but the grantee is another, so I either need to asign it to a car which I can do as a nominee or get the grantee to fill out various other forms so that I become the grantee (it seems you can't do this with just the renewal form).

I think, but I may be wrong, the only way you can become Grantee is by putting on a car then removing it.

If you didn't receive any money then you didn't sell it.
Id say it's still yours and you will need to pay the extension, I'd say that he has just been messing you about.

How can anybody think that you can put an `11` plate on an older car. Sounds like you`ve caught yourself a right tool. If no money changed hands it`s yours, and by the sounds of it the dvla say it`s still yours so pay the 25 quid to retain it or put it on a car.
