Air compressor fault/help needed

Hi Guys
I purchased an air compressor last year and painted a car with it no problem.
I started painting my latest project yesterday and all was fine.
I have just started again this morning and the compressor is not charging fully, hence not cutting out.
It reaches about 80% and then just keeps on running.
I finished spraying the panels I was on as it still provides circa 40psi to the gun.
It is a 100 litre compressor.
It normally charges during spraying and I then wait before starting a new section for it to catch up.
Anyone with any knowledge of these??
I checked the air filter and it looks ok and there is sufficient oil in it.
