new pads with new discs?

I'm jumping up a size on my front brake on my XC bike from 160mm to 180mm and putting a new disc on the rear at the same time.

Is it necessary to put new pads in at the same time as you would with a car? Or is it just good practice?
The pads are sintered if that makes any difference.

If they aren't too worn or ridged, then to be honest I would just take them out and rub them over some sand paper to get rid of any contamination or glazing then put them back on.

Awesome, wasn't 100% but thought they'd probably be ok. Theres a few months left in the current ones so if the weather is halfway decent this weekend I'll give the bike a proper clean and get them on!
