Well finally got Neal's twin turbo motor install finished at the weekend.

It fires but won't run and I have spend the past three days reading the megasquirt manuals to no avail. I am hoping someone with a brain larger than mine has a spare few mins.....

I am using Neal's map but it is an older version as it came up with a few errors when loading it to do with ignition settings. I am also using GEMS coils rather than Ford (as Neal was). I turned off tacho output as this was also causing an error. I am guessing this cannot be the issue since it is an output....

So I get revs no problem, the engine fires every couple of seconds but won't actually run up. I have tried changing the trigger angle up and down to no avail, but am confident I have it correct at 45 deg with my VR mount (centre of the VR sensor aligned with the far edge of tooth 5).

If anyone has a map using GEMS P38 coil packs this would be great so I can check I have these settings correct. I have used the settings of Phil (EFI Extra) generic v8 map to get the settings to get as far as I have.

I can be emailed at mattrosetvr at gmail dot com if anyone out there has a GEM coils msq to hand.

I tried (and failed) to post a jpeg screen shot of the various settings and will try again later

Thanks in advance......

Matt

Sounds like it will be sorted very soon.

Maybe Neals ignition was allowing for a different trigger wheel angle??

Yup, I had to make my own mount for VR sensor. I have set the trigger wheel angle for my VR position. Neal's details did not translate into my version of Tuner Studio.

Having a break from the f'in configs to put the inside back together.

How about just downloading megatune instead and open my map on there?? I remember having some issues with Tunerstudio but cant remember what they were.

Give Shaun a shout at http://www.ms2tuning.com/

Very helpful and if you want him to help tune it, very reasonable too.

Hi Neal,

All the important stuff came through into Tuner Studio and checks out roughly with the base map off Phil's website so can't see any obvious issue and temps etc are right. I had to set up my VR position (Tootth no 1 Angle) anyway so that can't be the issue unless I have been a complete idiot.... I have tried altering the angel by small amounts but makes no difference.

The other thing that was different is I am running the GEMS coils and was not sure on settings here e.g. Ignition Spark Output = Going High, Spark A Output = D14.1

I have dropped Phil (Extra EFI) an email so perhaps he can help.

I am hoping to wake up in the right mind to have a detailed investigation tomorrow so better only had a couple of beers tonight.

Anyone know an MS expert down South. Would love to take it to Shaun, but a bit of a trek and my towing can has died frown

Have you got the fuel lines on the right way round? And have you got fuel?

I have some fuel as the engine fires. Inlet goes to the fuel rail and I get pressured fuel out of the car tyre valve. Plenty of fresh fuel in the tank (4 gallons)

Not sure if it would fire at all if they were reversed??

Think my battery is OK. Only shows 12V on Tuner Studio but Multi meter shows 12.8. Volts drop to 9.5 under cranking (These are the numbers after it has already done a lot of work).

Giving up for tonight came my Mrs wants to go to firkin cinema.,

Also I hear a ticking (Like a spark short) that comes from the region of the coils - behind the plenum. Going to take plenum off tomorrow and have a closer look. Perhaps my coils are fried... or I have an issue with leads.

I am seeing rpm when cranking and have enough spark to get the engine to fire.

Have not used strobe to check timing on cranking as I can't get the mrs to come out and hit the key while I am at the business end. I could only check the cranking timing as it won't run up. Also just discovered my Strobe is broken....

Are you sure the leads are in correct order, you will be using wasted spark so it may fire now and then but not run. Easy mistake, just a thought.

Hi Macdeb. Pretty damn sure I got this right. The bracket is numbered so I would be a real numpty if I screwed that up........ It is one of the things I will be double checking tomorrow......

Like I said, easy mistake. Another thing that screwed us up on our install was that an existing ignition relay that had previously given no problem developed a contact/no contact issue which was random and difficult to pinpoint. It became apparent that all the moving around during install had weakened a previously ok contact. So, I'd check EVERY relay/connection. This was a real pisser as we even made an independant loom for the injectors to try and diagnose the problem fearing it was something we had done when it was a poxy relay connection all along! furious
Don't fret, you'll get there.

Well Phil just sent me the map he had already burned for me on Ecu.... It does exactly same so likely issues are coils battery my timing.... Or legacy wiring.

Cheers all

Hurrah and Huzzah we are up and running albeit a little rough at the mo.

Replaced 6 x leads (two were too short) and cleaned up the plugs and she fired up on Phil's map. Also change the Earth location. Remaining leads on order for replacement tomorrow.

Not sure what sorted it out but happy she fired up.

Probably juiced up plugs the RV8 hates this whatever ign system your running, they never seem to come back to full health after they have fouled up for the costs involved i would pop a set of new-un's in thumbup
