There are several versions of the scam but some that spring to mind are-
(Obviously I'm not calling you an idiot OP, just the people who usually fall for this...)
- You're an idiot so agree to meet them in a dark car park to see the car with a bag of cash. They duly relieve you of the bag of cash and needless to say there's no car.
- You're an idiot and turn up, paying cash for the car and drive off in it. You go to register it and it turns out to be stolen, Police relieve you of the car.
- You're an idiot and give them your bank details.

It's a common scam, I've seen it on the classifieds on here.
I saw an 05 S2000 for sale a while ago for about £4000 which the sort of price you pay for the cheapest of cheap S2000s. Anyway I emailed the said seller to see what the catch was. They replied with something along the lines of the seller is leaving the country hence the low price and that all the dealings are being dealt with by some official pistonheads accountant. All I had to do was transfer the money and the car would be delivered to me and that was it, if I wasn't happy I could return it for a refund within 7 days. Ohh how lovely and simple that would be to buy a car, needless to say it was removed as soon as I reported it.
Same sort of scam was applied to when I sold one of my cars, I was contacted by an overseas buyer who wanted to purchase it. But he had no means of paying, so I would have to pay to transport my car to him (via Western Union as there is no come back) which he would then cover when paying for car. I then get an email headed and from paypal (god knows how they managed that) saying the funds were being held by paypal until I paid for the transport. Quite simple really, and easy money for the scammers if anyone falls for it.

If autotraders £45 a listing per car is still in place, it could be an expensive way to try and pull a fraud!- You're an idiot so agree to meet them in a dark car park to see the car with a bag of cash. They duly relieve you of the bag of cash and needless to say there's no car.

I've had a nigerian scammer ask to send me a Cheque for more than the value of the car I was selling, then I could refund him the difference, then he would send a freight forwarder to pick the car up *facepalm*I saw an 05 S2000 for sale a while ago for about £4000 which the sort of price you pay for the cheapest of cheap S2000s.
