Not the car that you passed your test in, or owned(I realise that it will be the same car for a lot if people) but the first car you ever drove. Your first time behind the wheel.

For me it was on a friends farm, probably 13/14 years old. His dad had bought him a car to drive around the farm. I wasn't jealous, honest, not at all. hehe

Anyway it was one of these, great fun.

Also drove Dihatsu 4x4s and a Unimog on the same farm but nothing beat the Volvo. biggrin

the little trusty Suzuki owned by my uncle for farm use. Rusted as hell but never let him down. Still rusting away in a field somewhere with my first actual car - my reno 5. I remember asking if I could take off my trainers because the pedals were enormous and I just couldnt get the hang of this 'clutch' thing when I was 14.

My first drive of a car was my Dad's Triumph 2500 PI Estate, brilliant I loved it.

It was like this but in red...

Can't find a photo of the actual car, but it was a white replica of this, based on a 2CV. I was 12 at the time and my dad had not long bought it, he must have had faith!

In white. Slaloming and generally faffing about on a big wet, muddy field. I was 14.

For me it was a S1 Elise from the lower paddock at brands hatch to the pit lane.

I was uber excited but crapping myself at the same time.

A VW Golf GTI mark 2 5 door big bumper car in Tornado Red (8 valve), was 9 at the time, on an empty trading estate, the first day was clutch control/gear changes, the second was handbrake turns...

This.

Owned by my Father from 2000-2009, then sold to me (Well, given!) and I have cherished it ever since. I was 8 when he bought it, and 12 when I first drove it. Actually managed to park it up within the lines without stalling, albeit coming to a very abrupt stop - Damn brakes seemed sensitive when you're a nooby! hehe Roll on a few years, it's 2009 and my 17th Birthday has arrived. I got a few small gifts from Dad, and then he hands me a card. I open it, and am greeted by the keys to the Honda. Excited wasn't the word! Little did I know he had already got the documents ready, and had acquired a replacement car (Lexus GS300...Which is now also mine! rofl), so it was all mine! Few months later, I took my test in the Honda, then got insured and have not stopped driving it!

It really is a part of the family, and I will never EVER part with it. It's full of memorys, like going on a eurotrip with the missus, or transporting my A&E at 130 leptons (making my cream interior red!), all of which I am reminded of every time I sit in the car. Granted, she looks tired and dated, but I do not care in the slightest! She has clocked 172,000 miles yet has never went wrong. She drives as tight as a button, and still has all of her 170 horse ready to go whenever you drop a cog.

In short, A LOT of firsts have happened in this car. I love it!

1966 Ford Cortina Deluxe. My Dad's pride and joy; I almost shagged the gearbox in the first fifty yards as I forgot to press the clutch when changing from first to second. I was still on my motorbike in my head...

Austin A90 of late 50s (?) driven in 1964. 2.6 litre straight 6 engine producing 90hp (hence the A90). Column gear-change. The two front seats met in the middle so could seat 3 across. On cross-ply tyres and rear leaf-springs.

This was my first 'drive', steering it whilst sat on my dads lap when living in Switzerland. I was around 3 or 4 years old...so was probably more touching the steering wheel while my old man moved it wink I loved that car and still have very fond memories of it. I guess in reality though, it's probably not a very good car!

The first car (if you can call it that!) I ever piloted with my own feet and hands (still well before I was 17) was this....

It was a 105LUX, so it wasn't even the base S version. I think one of the luxuries in LUX spec was actual seats. I didn't love that car frown

My dad bought it for my mum to learn to drive in and it was a single point of embarrassment (and considerable piss taking) for me at school during the year they owned it!

My parents then upgraded to this, which was the first car I drove after passing my test. To be honest, back in the mid-90's it was substantially better than the Fiesta's, Nova's, Maestro's, 106's etc that any of my friends had and, most importantly, it's remarkably benign handling saved me from myself on numerous occasions!

Do I win?

Don't recall the girl coming with it, to be honest? Bugger!

MoT failure and I was given it, by a friend of my Mums - cost the princely sum of £85 to get an MoT biggrin

Drove ? Well I steered my dads and my grandads cars (with them operating pedals) when I was about 6.
But the first one I drove was a Datsun 120Y.

Obviously RHD version, and with black leather interior, but otherwise identical. Was round a caravan site many years ago, with the site warden getting very upset at my father for letting me "command" such a car. biggrin

Used to be fun talking to my mates at school about it too - not many had parents with a turbocharged petrol car pushing up towards 200 horses. cool

My brother in law's 309 GTI before I was a teenager (supervised, private land and all that - genuinely), unless letting the handbrake off an XR3i as a toddler counts.

I piloted my Grandads Vauxhall Combi van into his parking spot, which was sort of between his back garden and the street behind, down the side of some garages. And then the very first vehicle I properly controlled was a 47 year old Ford Tractor just like this one only last August.

Then the first car was my mums 2001 1.4 Polo, then my cousins 205, neighbours Volkswagen Van (same owner as the tractor, in his field) and a Corsa 1.2, and now my driving instructors 1.5 Turbo Diesel Clio, and I don't yet have a license.

My parents 1985 Vauxhall Carlton estate at the age of about 13 on the beach. It's the best car they've ever owned, but given that the other contenders are a MkIII Escort, a Renault Savanna and a 2002 Civic, that's not saying much.
