Questions RE: Mk2 Audi TT
Discussion
Morning All,
Wondering if anybody could shed some light on what is looking very likely to be my next car purchase.
I am looking at mk2 TT's with the 3.2 V6 and DSG box, around the 2007-2008 range and approx 40k miles max.
My concerns are with the gearbox, i have heard and read about horror stories with the VAG DSG and wondering what i could be letting myself in for (potentially). I know i could hit it lucky and have no problems at all, i am just curious as to what can go wrong, and the financial implications that it brings.
Also, what should i look for when viewing one in terms of cambelt change intervals etc.
And no, i am not a hairdresser
Thanks in advance.
J

have you tried the Audi forum? I'm sure this has been discussed a number of times [though I know the PH search doesn't work to well]. Also, google Audi TT forum and you'll find some good Audi clubs to ask existing owners.
I'd like to hear the result of your research, as I wouldn't mind a DSG Mk2 V6 TT [though not sure I want one more than a 350Z and Z4 coupe].

First of all the 3.2 V6 doesn't have a cambelt, it's a chain driven engine.
With regards to the DSG box, the main failure is the mechatronics unit which these days is not a big issue as they can be refurbed by companies like ECUTesting.
It is important that the gearbox gets an oil and filter change every 40k miles

I have looked into both the 350 and the Z4, however i just cannot move my mind away from that engine noise! I'd like to hear the result of your research, as I wouldn't mind a DSG Mk2 V6 TT [though not sure I want one more than a 350Z and Z4 coupe].
.Also, the insurance quotes for the TT are coming back quite cheap (being 21 with 4 yrs NCB) at approx £1500 from the compare sites. Will be trying specialists to see if i can bring that down. I wouldn't mind a 350, but im not too keen on the interior if im being honest even though it is a great car.
