Bad TVR crash at Dore Sheffield

Just spoken to the Police as when I heard about this I realised I knew of a couple of people that live in the area.
I'm sorry to say that the driver died shortly after the accident. I don't really know much more, but as the press have the details now and I'm told it will be reported shortly.

An man died after his car hit a wall in Sheffield yesterday morning.
The 36 year old, who lived in the Netheredge area of Sheffield, was driving a TVR sports car along the A625 Hathersage Road in Dore towards Bakewell soon after 7.30am when the collision happened.
He had apparently lost control of the car as he negotiated a left hadn bend outside the HSBC sports ground, 100 m on the Sheffield side of the junction with Ash House Lane and the car hit the dry stone wall to the nearside.
The driver suffered severe leg, pelvis and arm injruies and was later pronouced dead at the Northern General Hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses to this collision. Please call the accident witness helpline on 0114 2202970.

There have been many crashes near this bend, but it baffles me.
Only a short distance beyond a 40 limit residential area, leading to open moorlands....slight uphill gradient and about 20 degree left.
It's possible to wind it up before the bend, but it's not tight. Most off-through-the-wall incidents occur in the other direction, going downhill.
It was damp that morning. I arrived at 8.15am and the sun was shining.
There's a gate on the inside of the bend, and fields behind dry stone walls opposite.
Have to wonder if an animal ran across the road.

I know the road well and those were my thoughts. Without witnesses it will be difficult to tell.
Thoughts are with the drivers family though. It really got to me when a couple of people I know rang me as soon as they heard to check I was ok. I was, but someone wasn't going home that night.
I live in Dore/Whirlow. My cousin was a business partner of the man killed. I think his name was Norman and drove a Green Chimaera. There was talk of bald rear tyres and him overtaking a lorry at a very high speed. but i do not know if this is correct. The whole in the wall is vast. I also own a Chimaera and often drive up the same road. This corner already has a plaque to commemerate the death of two other boys killed in the same spot. My sister went through the same wall several years ago as a passenger but she was o.k. I could walk to the spot where the accident occured in about five minutes from where i live. Loosing my best friend in a car crash involiving his Lotus Elise back in 1999 was and still is a painfull memory and that was quarter of a mile away from this incident. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I am truly shocked by the news. Especially because i have waved to him on several occasions while driving in Derbyshire. Driving around that bend uphill there is a sign that says Concealed Entrance, this is the entrance to the MIDLAND BANK sports ground.

They were on the wrong side going in the opposite direction...met something head on.

Aye, but the entrance is no longer in use.

That would explain it, but no sign of a lorry when I passed 45 minutes after the event.

Was there a witness then? Where does this sort of 'talk' come from? I think this sort of idle speculation would be very hurtful to his family & friends and should not be posted unless it is fact - don't you think? Sympathy to his family...
Just been for a walk past the scene. I've already said this incident is baffling. Now find it even more so.
Police orange paint marks the car's path.
Just beyond the apex, nearside wheels mounted the kerb and ran through the weeds alongside the high stone wall for about 50 yards. The wall curves into the driveway, and the car hit it on the further side.
On the opposite side of the road is a footpath, dry stone wall and field.
Just beyond the impact point, something has mounted the footpath on the opposite side and left a straight line of rubber up to the wall, without hitting it.
This could suggest that another vehicle was attempting to overtake the TVR into the blind bend, forcing TVR into the nearside, then understeering off itself on the opposite side.
No police paint around this black line, so I assume plod hasn't seen it. It was damp, so possibly not visible at the time.
Clearly, the rubber might have been laid during an earlier or later incident, but I'm contacting plod to advise him.
