I know, I know, it's another fuel cap thread.

But I'm having trouble identifying mine, and it's a leaky bd frown

The inner diameter of hole it fits into is about 36mm wide, and those locking lugs are about 4mm deep each.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Mate...36mm?..That sounds a bit small for the ID of the filler neck,I thought they were nearly 2"..I believe the original filler caps were made by Ceandess and were fitted to british motorcycles such as Triumph, BSA and AJS..For a locking non-vent Ceandess cap you are talking around 40 sobs..After much searching i decided to change the cap and top part of the filler neck for a screw cap design..(Cant upload a pic at the moment)..But i used something similar to these..I jubilee clipped the hose to the bottom of the new filler neck..Just make sure if you do go this route to get one that is not too long...cheers...ziga

Yea I thought it was a bit on the small side, but here it is:

Does look like I might have to get a new neck then

MMmm..Perhaps someone has changed it in the past as it doesnt look like a wedge fitting..The problem i found was trying to get one that fitted inside such a large diameter but with what you have there you might be able to get something from a motor factors or howlfrauds to fit..Its worth a try before you change anything..Ziga

Doesn't look like a standard neck or cap to me. If someone has changed it in the past maybe they have messed around with the breather pipes?

When you say it's leaking, is that only when you fill the tank to the brim? If so "they all do that" in my experience

right I thought it was produced by a company in italy http://www.farmagroup.it/
but they don't seem to able to identify it either.

Danny, it normally leaks when I fill it right up. However it does leak when going round corners to, I've had a number of complaints about it before. One poor chap even had to use his wipers...

Anyway, should I be changing this for a ventilated or non ventilated cap? I assume because of the injection system it should be non-ventilated?

Hi Mate..Initially it should be non-vented but if someone has changed the filler neck be sure it has the breather's..The small pipe on the left goes to the atmosphere and the larger one on the right comes from the tank to the filler neck..Also if you are over filling then it will come out of the breather as well as an ill-fitting cap...Ziga

Forgot to say...Even if the cap you have may have a part number on it whether they still make them is a different matter..It may of been a 2 part component..i:e cap & neck...However there are loads of fuel caps that might fit so drive to a motor factors or howlfrauds and see if they have one that fits..

I think my 350i has a vented cap, can't get to it to double check though at the moment. I'm sure someone can confirm.

Might be different on a V6?

A vented cap is only needed if you dont have a vented tank..Without a vent you would get a vacuum build up as the fuel drops and the car would stall..Some cars (Not wedges) have a charcoal canister and a rollover valve..The canister allows air but no water to be drawn into the tank and the rollover valve allows the pressure to escape..With a rollover valve and no canister..(US Wedge) you would need a vented cap..Also too much venting could result in poor fuel pressure depending on the way the fuel loop is designed...Ziga

What's the key like?

I am sure I had a cap like that on one of my motors, but which one I don't know
