Remarkable - now it's my turn

I've just been contacted by a chap in America who's writing a book about naval history. He wishes to use two photographs from my website www.sanjuannepomuceno.co.uk. I asked for more details and he replied:

1. The Book is entitled "Toulon 1793: Napoleon's First Great Victory," published as part of XXX's Campaign series. The format is 248 x 184 mm. Page length is 96 pages. The price is £12.99.

2. I'm not sure of the print run at this time, but I gather it is at least in the 5,000+ range.

3. The book will be sold in bookstores, specialist/hobby stores and on-line sources such as Amazon, as well as direct from the publisher.

4. The photos are likely to be 15 x 8 cm format.

I liked one of your other photos that showed the Spanish flag, but I think it is too blurry to use. Do you have any other shots of the completed model, with flags and preferably out of the display case? Please let me know what you would like to charge for the use of these photographs. Currently, I am paying in the £10-25 range for the rights to use other photos.

I don't want to remove the model from the case, but my idea is to offer a decent reshoot with the D70 to his exact requirements and send hi-res files on CD.

Ladies and gentlemen, your comments as commercial photo-vendors is eagerly sought, for this area is new to me

You'll find it tough getting a great photo through the case I would have thought?

From the prices being mentioned for a postcard on another thread, similar run I think, he's about x10 out.

I'd ask if he would prefer a different colour or more atmospheric background design. Photos through the case shouldn't be a problem if you control the direction of the light, but you might have to Photoshop out bits of case and shadows created by it.

I wouldn't go overboard with effort though, that book isn't very expensive and has a minimal print run so don't expect much cash for your images.

Update: I eventually got an idea of price from an image library - Getty Images to be precise. After much passing around from dept to dept, they hinted at £80 apiece, so I offered the guy 2 images (re-shot) for £150.
