What have I done?

Well, I've finally done it - I've put down a deposit on a Griff which I'm due to pick up next week!
It's cost me an absolute fortune. Not the Griff, particularly, (which was £24k, but in mint condition), but in order to get "wife approval" I had to agree to move house next year, which will cost me a further £200,000. All in all, the Griff has cost me a tad under quarter of a million pounds. Hence the question: "what have I done". What I want to hear from people is some sort of affirmation that a Griff is a half decent car that won't break down every five minutes. Almost everyone I've told have shook their head in disapproval at my choice of car. I always thought that Griffs were one of the more reliable TVR's - someone tell me I'm right, please!!

Don't sweat it, you did do the right thing. The wrong thing (what I did!) was to buy the car without telling my wife and confront her with it as a 'look honey - aren't I clever' type thing. One year on and I'm still paying..and paying.. but the car has done a whole year of weekend thrashing, several track days and no problems to date. Best thing I ever did!

I had told my wife I had purchased a car, shot off to collect on valentines day, and she thinks it was a present. She then got pregnant 2 weeks later, and was pleased to be chauffered...
Trouble is, cost of kids these days.

That's exactly what I got from people when I bought mine. I just ignored them and tried it for myself, anyway not one of them knew what they were talking about.
I can say after 15 months of ownership that haven't regreted buying it for a minute.

My girlfriend wanted the Griff. In fact, it's hers...
It's one of the highest milage Griff on PH. Nearly 87k!
We've only had it a couple of months and there's been no serious problem yet so I guess it's reliable, but this could be a famous last post

Pah! Dont worry about the negative comments of others. Most people who say such things buy their cars simply as a mode of transport. I think you'll usually find that the most exciting thing that happens in their daily lives is when their ugly wives decide to spice things up a little by shopping at Sainsburys rather than Tesco's. To such people, a TVR would always seem like a waste of money.
However, those people who actually have a life can appreciate TVR's for what they are - a thrilling escape from the daily grind that reminds you what life is supposed to be about.
If, like them, I never had anything more to look forward to than a mortgage, a regular 9 to 5, grey suits, 2.4 kids, 1 holiday a year and a Mondeo, I think I'd top myself. But they dont do that. They have to believe they are superior and that its you making the irresponsible mistake, otherwise their pointless lives would crumble into insignificance.
