What's the ultimate 911?
Discussion
Never driven one and still a scratch that needs to be itched but given the choice to own just one, which one would it be?
I'm rather drawn to the 997 GT2 RS (red with black carbonfibre bonnet) but my life would end very quickly in a fireball (I would definitely have one if it had 4WD, although oddly no other 4WD 911s appeal to me, apart from perhaps a 959)!
A 997 GT3 (not an RS) would seem to offer everything that I want in a 911. RWD, manual gearbox, naturally-aspirated engine. I think the hard ride and roll cage on an RS would just annoy me, as I would primarily use it on the road).
1960s/1970s 911s look the most pure but perhaps a bit slow and crap brakes.
Had a poster of a Guards Red 930 Turbo with black Fuchs alloys on my wall for most of my childhood, so remember this one fondly.
Like the 964 and 993 best from a looks perspective.
Don't like the headlights on the 996.
997 Sport Classic looks awesome but isn't it just a Carrera S underneath?
So what is your ultimate 911?

I drive a 997 C2S and it's 90% of the car I want . If I paid more attention in school I might have been able to afford a Turbo - I think that's as good as the 911 gets for me. Everyday useability and capable of tearing your spine apart should you wish it to do so.
I love the GT2s and GT3s but I like to (be able to) use mine for the daily commute, I would imagine that having to do up the harnesses and go without the creature comforts missing in the track-spec Porks would get tiring after a while. These days I find myself turning off PASM on the mway for want of a better ride...

Same here: never driven one, it's a very itchy itch that demands a scratch, and I'd love to own just one.just one

930 Turbo SE Flat Nose. Not as a daily driver, but a weekend occasional. If I bottle it after the first weekend, then a 2.4S.
For a regular, probably a 993 C2S.
I'm not sure there is one. I went the 997RS route in the full knowledge of the limitations, but I have more practical cars. No regrets. If you are to have one car, I suspect the 997GTS would do the job, but you might want to try the manual 991. The 993 is to me the bast looking 911 of all, but if you are used to a modern you may find the interior a bit primitive and a bit noisy. I would suggest that you try a few and see what works. We all ehave our own preferences and biases here ( as in very Porsche Forum) because there are so many really interesting variants.
