Just got a pug 306 tdi for the grand sum of £150. Can't even remember the last time i saw a car at that price with T&T. Going to run it into the ground and then scrap/break it for more.

Thought id just share it with everyone i'm so pleased at my new shed.

Definitely a bargain.

If it is in average to good nick then hopefully it will get through the next MOT, if not it's still a bargain. Depending on what goes wrong with it when you have 'run it into the ground' let me know and I might buy it off you!

Pics to follow, its from a friend of mine, just bought a brand new BMW and wants shut of this thing that he has had to drive around for the last few years lol. I pick it up on Saturday. It looks in excellent nick to be fair, even if it lasts me until the next MOT, break it/scrap it and lose very little to nothing.

So potentially it's a car you can only use for 1 month without big bills?

No.

6m tax won't be much and it'll have a corresponding amount of mot. Mot expiry time is the make or break deadline. Either way it's probably worth more than £150 scrap value so you effectively have a free car.

As Dave said, its basically a free run around, It has plenty of MOT i know its serviced when it needs to be and looked after easonably well. I may even go the whole hog and service it myself when i get it for the sake of £30 smile 6 months tax is a drop in the ocean in terms of normal car costs. By the way its a HDI as well (newer one) so better again smile

I imagine your friend must be in an interesting line of work to jump straight from a £150 shed to a brand new BMW.

Saved up for the last 4 years and just hit 25. So insurance more forgiving and cash on the hip. Not everyone gets a brand new car on finance, He saved for it!!

Not my cup of tea but at £150 it really is a complete no brainer! As you say if it fails in 7 months time then you will still get your money back.

my first thoughts would be to get it to an MOT station and try and get a full 12 months on it..... if it's only done 5 months since it's last MOT you may find it goes through easily and for the £50 test fee it potentially gives you a full 12 months in it...

win/win either way really when you're getting it for £150!!

^ why spend money needlessly?

Do you MOT every car when you get it?

OP: for £150 run it until the MOT expires, bang it in for one and if it passes you have a £500 car if it fails you still have a £150-200 car (depending on how generous your local scrappy is)

Reckon no matter what, throw it on ebay and make more money than i paid. I hear anything with MOT/tax gets £300+ bare minimum

Unless I needed a car to run around in, I'd probably put it in for a £27 MOT at a Halfords Autocentre, and if it passed I'd stick it on eBay and get at least £500 for it. Unless completely shagged, a full-MOT HDI will easily fetch that!

No point in that whatsoever. If it fails it's MOT that renders the existing MOT Void so then the OP is £27 down and worse off.

I'd never go near a Halfords Autocentre but I imagine it is no different to Kwik Scam when it comes to needing new brakes all round, new shocks, a new exhaust and wheel bearings.
