Well, would love to try a track day.. but stuck down in Cornwall. Any guys or girls in this neck of the woods do them regularly? Nearest circuits I'm guessing are Llandow or Castle Coombe but these are still over 4 hours away!

I dont have a fancy track car toy, just fancy driving to circuit or air field.. having some fun and driving home!

Cheers

Thruxton is closer, isn't it? Trackdays there are very rare, costly and bound by very low noise limits though (often under 90dB)

Get yourself over to the South West section of PH and ask on there. There are a few guys like Stubby Pete who do the odd track day.

Four hours? When I lived in Falmouth I did loads of trackdays. Castle Combe and Thruxton were both exactly the same distance from my house, Llandow a little further, but all within 2.5 hours or so drive, and I've done all of them there and back in a day with no problem in an S1 Elise. Tracks further afield, such as Silverstone, Oulton, Bedford and Donington required an overnight stay the night before.

If you've lived in Cornwall for any length of time you soon get used to the fact that you have to drive two hours up the A30 and M5 to Bristol to get to pretty much anywhere else in the country.

I've lived here forever, but lets be realistic, Chippenham is more than a 2.5 hour drive from Lands End! I've been to Japfest before a couple times in my MR2.

Will be in Bristol this weekend, will time the journey!

I love the Lands End to St Ives road! Unfortunately the only time I get to drive it is when on holiday so instead of the BMW, I'm in the wife's diesel Galaxy with the kids in the back.

I stay near Redruth (Cambrose) so do the Redruth-Falmouth road quite often. You're right, it's also very good. Portreath to St Ives via Godrevy is another good one. Couple of nice on-camber corners near Hell's Mouth.

Just moved to Devon, not looking forward to my trips to The Ring and Spa so thinking of moving the car there for the Spring summer. Racing again this year in my mates car so get my kicks in the UK and will drive my comfortable car to get there and back so happy to do 200 miles each way in a day.

Its not so bad as you realise when getting off at Dunkerque, its less far to drive to the Ring from there, than it is from Dover back to Devon biggrin (It might be about the same actually)

Cornwall is peppered with old WW2 airfields. Go find one & blag your way onto it.
I think they used to run a sprint on St eval. Contact the organising club, run your own trackday.

Is there still an old airfiled at Dunkeswell (or something like that). My Dad used to take me there to drive around when I were a lad.....

Privately owned, and occasional 1/4 mile days there, with a bit of drifting. No circuit type setup though. I know the grandson of the owner. I must try and "have a word" biggrin
