I've searched and FAQ'd and I'm sure I've seen this covered before...but....

I have a letter from my new insurer asking me to provide evidence of 'an insurer approved security device'. Any idea how I comply, is it something the nice people at Stratstones Derby can send me...?

What car/year is it?
From your profile pic, is it an 08 V8V, other?

There are different devices fitted dependant on the date of manufacture.
I have the 07 onwards letter you require, email me (brent at puwer.co.uk) and ill send it to you. However, I would contact Phil Hickerton (Customer Service Executive) at Aston Martin, Gaydon 01926 644745 and email him your VIN number to get the exact device.

From the 2007MY it would be the Euro-watch tracking system with driver tags.

Prior to this it was the Tracker system (the Horizon I believe).

I've gone with Sainsbury's...or rather the 'financial controller' has put me with Sainsbury's. I called them up for an explanation and I really wanted to say 'do you realise this is an Aston Martin, of course it has security'. I didn't get the feeling that Tina at the call-centre would have cared too much though to be honest.

I have a letter from one of our Forum colleagues and some contact details should I need to get a VIN related version so hopefully we should be good.

Anyway I have a MY09 V8V in Toro Red....not Black or Grey, not sure why I felt that was important but I feel better for it.

Any decent insurance company would know that your car model and year would have not only a standard immobiliser, but also a upgraded tracking system with driver tags.

I have a 2007MY V8V (with all the upgraded tracking system on the car) and my insurance company knew exactly what devices I had on my car.

I've just had same nightmare with Sainsburys!! They took our money then informed me we weren't insured for theft untill we could provide them with the detail off the alarm. For the next 3 weeks myself, Stratstones , and even the factory, sent them everything possible ( even the name of the company who supply the parts to the factory ) all to no avail. Finally I was on the phone yet again banging my head against a brick wall, when suddenly the girls voice and attitude changed, she said she would ring me back. 5 minutes later one of the managers rang back to say she had been listening into the call and was disappointed in the way my case had been handled. She asked for Martins number at Stratstones , another 5 minutes she phoned back and apoloigized again and said it was sorted!!!!! The moral of the story is to save your blood pressure, don't let them fob you off ask to speak to a Manager.

Thanks Grant. Great book by the way. They are asking about security devices and refer to immobilisers. I'm tracked and iPhone linked but they want more...

Great advice thank you all.

Good grief you were spot-on. They wanted me to contact the dealer, the manufacturer etc but I stood my ground and indeed a very nice chap took control and resolved this within 24 hours.

Thanks all - Neil

Most insurance companies are not very good with customers these days, so what hope
is there for a grocer trying to do insurance?

You may be interested, that Aviva does not always insist on a tracking device, even though you might be using one anyway.

I went with Sainburys because of their in depth understanding of horse-power.

I went with Sainsburys this time and had exactly the same issue re the tracker, they wanted a receipt for the installation. I explained that it was factory fitted and sent a copy of the subscription invoice but it took a couple of weeks of letters and phone calls before they could sort it. All the time with the threat/risk that they wouldn't cover me for theft! The staff were helpful enough but there was a box they couldn't tick so it raised an ongoing issue. Eventually got sorted but it was really frustrating.

Equity Red Star via ClassicLine:

'what kind of car is it?'
'2006 DB9 Volante'
'OK thanks, it's done'

Why are you people going with these halfwits?

Last week:

'hi, a lot of hand wringing on the forum about mods, I have lots, is this OK?'
I list the mods
'yep, we'll inform the insurer, no problems or increase'

CHANGE YOUR INSURERS! yes
