What is the correct name / model for the 89-2000 "chunky" model? The S600 is my dream car.
Searches always bring up the "modern ones" not the Newport Pagnal ones. "Virage" ones of this era down to £20k level but supercharged ones somewhat dearer!
Someone who had one (I met on jury service) was less than complimentary about the electrics and reliability but I'd still like one on my drive. What are they like to own?

They were originally Virages.
From the moment I read Gavin Green's story in Car, they were my dream motor.
Then the Volante came out and I really really want that, more.
Then I drove one.
I got 200 yards up the road before I knew I didn't want to own one.
I've not tried a Vantage one, yet. I hope to one day and I hope I enjoy the experience.
There used to be one I saw occasionally in Wokingham. Of course I heard it much more often that I saw it.
But there is something special about the idea of sitting in the middle of your own personal earthquake.

The one I drove was an automatic Volante. It just didn't feel like I was connected with the car, it just felt heavy and remote and not didn't feel as rigid as the coupe. The coupe I drove felt really well planted, but not especially quick and again fairly heavy, I just didn't enjoy driving as much as I did my Jag. I was also looking for the Aston to be my main car and not just a toy to play with.I ended up keep the XJ and buying a classic as a toy.

I love the Virage. Its "my" generation of Aston, as in when it was launched I was young enough to have posters on my bedroom walls of it, read the road tests (and disbelieved them when they said the car was too soft and too slow for the 90s)
I've always loved the shape of the Virage. A manual would be great. A 6.3 if my personal idea of perfection in a car. Read an original road test and you might get what I mean...
Its widely thought that the V8 Coupe, the Virage replacement/Vantage without the superchargers is a cracking car and very nice indeed. But they only made 99: owners also had the more powerful, cheaper, prettier, faster DB7 vantage to buy

Congratulations on your purchase. Without any doubt the best place to conduct research about your car and all matters related to its upkeep is the AMOC Forum, under the section for Virage etc. If you announce yourself there, as a new owner, you'll be made to feel very welcome and get a considerable amount of information if that is what you want.

Looks wonderful. A proper hand-built car and one that has a great presence on the road. There is an awful lot of information about the Virage Volante on AMOC, as one of the regular posters on that Forum (Russell), owned one for a time and had a considerable amount of work undertaken on the vehicle, details of which he was happy to share with others.
