Well, After putting my car to hibernate over the winter, i went to fire it up last night, and thought the trickle charger had given up. Thought the battery was flat, but it's not.

Turns out the key fob battery had died (i hope that's all it is) so got some replacements. Got the spare key,and it seems that the batteries in that are also dead.

I know the secret way in,and I don't 'need' to use the car for the time being... but is there a way to re-programme the two fobs?

It's the standard meta system if that is any use.

Cheers

Just change the batteries and off you go. Or am I missing something?

Tried that, and it's not talking to the car. I was told with my last Chim, that you should replace the batteries within 20mins of removing the old ones... otherwise the car and fob can go out of sync.

Not sure if the cerbie is the same, but it seems as though it does.

Not that I had any issues with but you never know. Maybe take your battery in the car off line and reconnect. New fobs as far as know will not work without some work on the system or you bought them knowing the code.

I seem to remember that sometimes the fobs need to be re-synced with the alarm, done by holding the button on the fob down for 4 seconds from what I can recall......

That's perfect gents, I will try the 4 second tip tomorrow (it's too cold for me outside now, the heating had packed up in the digs where I stay in the week).

Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again, and if all else fails, I will get in touch with Abacus. I used them to order a new alarm for my bike, and they were spot on - so would certainly get my business again!

Are you sure the "SILVER KEY" has not been disturbed, it would be quite unusual for both batteries in the key fobs to be flat at the same time.

Silver key won't interrupt key fobs George, just ignition.

Both fobs probably originally had batteries put in (out of the same batch) at the same time during production, so in fact its far more likely that they would tend to go flat at the same time than not.

ETA. The other thing that sometimes helps if the alarm doesn't recognise the fob is to disconnect the car battery for a few minutes then reconnect it. The alarm should flash the indicators. If you press the fob buttons at that point it should recognise them.

Hello all,

Got the Cerbie up and running tonight, all it took was a battery disconnect and reconnect :-)

Bring on the salt-free roads!
