Hi all,

I may have an issue with my eldest cat Phoebe (she's 3).... She's an indoor burmese/bengal cross in good health and mood, still as affectionate as ever... She's had no issues before except for fleas which were treated fairly quickly.

Basically she's got what started off as a spot on the back of her ear which turned into what you see now. She also has the start of what looks like exactly the same on the inside of her ear too. Although they look close they are not either side of each other if that make sense, they are probably 5mm apart.

I wondered if she and the kitten may have been playing a bit rough and she got caught whilst kittens claws were a bit sharp (we clip them back)?

The spot on the top does look very very similar to the scabs she got after getting chomped by the fleas so i'm hoping this is all it is. If anyone has seen these before and can advise?

One other thing to mention, she has got a bit of what seems like flaking skin at the base of her tail almost dandruff looking. After speaking to the local vet (they rang to remind us she needs a booster vacination), they advised it's not uncommon and to keep combing her regular as normal but if she starts itching etc to call again (she hasn't).

All in all, i'm not too concerned as it looks to me like the flea bites which i can deal with, but it just seemed a bit odd as combing her and the kitten hasn't produced any. It's worth mentioning I guess that the kitten hasn't got any bited or similar at all.....

anyhoo, here she is, the poor thing....

Doesn't look worrying to me but watch to see if it stays/grows or causes any irritation. If there is a possibility of fleas, then you really should treat asap.

That's a fighting mark, I also have Bengal crosses; they like a good scrape. Any scratches to the head area means she hasn't backed down. It will settle down over the coming months.

Sorry, should have said,, she is regularly treated for fleas but is now just about due. The house is sprayed every 6 months too. Just to be sure. I wouldn't want them to suffer that again frown

The fact that she is an indoor that is getting these is concerning me.

They look like the allergy spots that Bast (also a Bengal cross) got - she was allergic to Rabbit (her favourite prey) Fleas, a weeks worth of the appropriate dose of Piriton (which she HATED!) and she was fine.

However, as Phoebe doesn't go out, this is not likely to be the case here.

Do you know where the original outbreak of fleas came from? (eg we had a friend that has dogs come to stay, fleas must have travelled with them as the next guests to stay in the spare room were bitten - I didn't have the cats at that point).

Yeah we have a fairly good idea as to where they came from. We had the conservatory open to air out while cleaning and while out of the room two of next doors kittens ran in and curled up on the sofa. As I walked back in they scarpered off and within two days our cats were covered. Next doors kittens aren't very well looked after and we have noticed they are always covered in bites and have matted fur. I keep toying with the idea to ring RSPCA to report as they have about 5 of them and they get left for 3 days at a time sometimes locked out of the house. The owner had just got a shar pei pup too which I can see getting skin problems soon if it gets unkept like the cats frown
