Need advice/info

It appears the alternator on my 996 Turbo has packed in. Definitive diagnosis tomorrow! Problem is that the exact same thing happened April last year so the alternator & battery were replaced under warranty. I could not renew the warranty this year as the car is 10 years in May. Was talking to Porsche today & according to them if the alternator is the issue now they will not honour the parts warranty as they originally replaced it under warranty last year. Despite the part having a 2yr warranty itself. If i had paid for the alternator last year they would honour the parts warranty. This sounds like a scam to me!!!
Anyone have any similar experience & is there anyway around this?!
