Joey Barton on Twitter

Yes, I know he's a bellend, and 99% of what he says is just nonsense, but like listening to Adrian Durham on Talk Sport, very rarely the drivel is interspursed with something worthwhile.
Anyway, he tweeted on Wednesday, watching Brazil, how annoying it is players praying and crossing themselves and all this garbage on the pitch. As he said "if there is a god, would he give a st about a poxy football match."
And I'm absolutely with him. Stephen Pienaar pulling up his shirt to reveal "God is Great" on his vest. Would an atheist get away with "there is no god". I doubt it. I think neither should be allowed. Where do we draw the line. You have hernandes at man u kneeeling on the centre spot before ko, the twit at Newcastle doing the full Allah thing. How long before someone wants to sacrifice a goat on the touchline as they come on as sub.
If you want to pray, do so in the dressing room before you come out. Where soes it say in the bible/koran/torah or whatever that god will not help you score unless you pray on the pitch?
Anyone else think all these blatant displays of faith have no place in the game.

Barton gets a ton of abuse, often quite rightly, but I'm hard pressed to find an occasion (outside of the whole, heh, GBH thing) where his heart hasn't been in the right place.
His articles are often a good read. For a proffesionsl footballer, that is!
I agree, he's an interesting character when he's not being a complete pillock. His articles are often a good read. For a proffesionsl footballer, that is!
Seems reasonably intelligent/articulate too (again when he's not in pillock mode).

I think you'll find we had two of those twits. Guess where the other one is now? Clue, he won't be kissing the ground anytime soon with his rearranged face Anyway, he tweeted on Wednesday, watching Brazil, how annoying it is players praying and crossing themselves and all this garbage on the pitch. I'm a 'devout' atheist but I couldn't give a friar tuck if they want to pray, it's not like it interrupts the game is it? There are far bigger issues in the game than someone putting their face in the turf or staring at the sky for 5 seconds.
This. If it aggravates you, then get a grip. TheHeretic said:
Don't laugh. God made you post that.I doubt people praying annoys many people and it doesn't disrupt the game.
You'd have to be a total nutjob to pull your top up to reveal a top underneath saying something along the lines of 'God doesn't exist.'
Pretty sure the nutjob would reveal a hefty fine for inciting critiscism too.

How about a top that says; You'd have to be a total nutjob to pull your top up to reveal a top underneath saying something along the lines of 'God doesn't exist.'

"I did this.
(God was too busy killing babies in Africa)"
Would be more accurate, I reckon.

I agree. But a bigger nutjob than this? You'd have to be a total nutjob to pull your top up to reveal a top underneath saying something along the lines of 'God doesn't exist.'
