One chance to own a Ferrari...what would it be?
Discussion
As above but you can't have it to sell on for financial gain. It has got to be a keeper! For me, none of the modern Ferraris really do it for me. Function over form, too much emphasis on maximum power, too complex. I find them a bit like computers really! Right now, I would love a 458 but then Ferrari will bring out something faster and better looking to replace it in a few years time and it will become passe, just like the 360 and 430. Also, one of the biggest appeals of a Ferrari to me used to be the manual alloy open-gate gear lever. Now the only new car available with one of these as far as I know is an Audi R8 ironically! Will all the modern technology still work in 30 years time...I'm not convinced!
I also like the idea of not owning the cliche of a red Ferrari and prefer the ones that look good in other colours.
For me, the prettiest Ferrari would have to be the Dino (preferably in black or metallic blue). It would be great if Ferrari could bring out a new entry-level model with 2 seats, manual gearbox and a V6 turbo for 911/Vantage money (maybe this is what the Alfa 4C is intended to be)!

The one I would most like to have a drive in is a 288 GTO (OK, I'll have this one in red and sorry, as much as I respect the F40, it doesn't really do it for me)!

However, on balance my favourite would have to be a Daytona in metallic blue. Not the fastest and certainly not the best to drive but from a time when Ferraris were the reserve of the wealthy and not premier league footballers of ex Big Brother "celebrities".
Big V12: check
Continent crushing ability: check
Effortlessly cool: check
Just the thing for a long weekend in Monte Carlo!

If you had the opportunity to own just one Ferrari, what would it be?

One shot at a Ferrari price no object doesnt the 250GTO select itself? Maybe one of the competition lightweights if we are being picky. As noted above other 250s are available and honestly any of them would be welcome in my garage.
We followed one out of a classic event at Silverstone once in our MGB, scary scary in car with a single line braking system. Thankfully nothing went wrong with me or the car and I didnt enter the history books.

288 GTO, comes to mind first, but I think in reality, if I could only have ONE, and I had to keep it, and wanted to use it, I would pick the FF. Shed loads of room, useable, ruddy quick in 99% of situations, and more importantly, new. I just can't abide by having an old car that you just know is about to rot away under you if you dare use it.
