Petrol fumes in the cabin

Not something I have had before.

The fumes are very strong-so much so that my daughter felt giddy.
Checked the filler cap-its fine,can't see a leak under the tank.Fumes are stronger in the cabin than in the boot which is very weird

Can you overfill the Tuscan tank?

Feels like a mobile bomb at the moment.

Had this once before. Thought I'd put the filler cap back on properly - even felt like I had when I took it off/replaced it. Guess I hadn't as it stank for a couple of hours, but slowly got better after I checked & replaced it.

I love the smell of petrol.

Must be the summer job I had in a petrol station.

Not to worry I've just split 4 litres of oil in the works pool car boot and despite my attempts to jet wash the spare wheel well and disposing of the carpet (replaced by cardboard from despatch) It still smells of oil refinery.

When you fill the petrol tank, and after that you leave the car in the sun, the petrol will expand.
The Tuscan has a petrol canister, located just after the right front wheel. This canister takes the petrol fumes, and when it is full it will let it go.
Unfortunately, the petrol fumes go straight in the right front wing, and from there through into the interior of the car. That's where the smell is coming from.
To avoid it you better not fill the petrol tank just before you will park it in the sun.

I re-opened and replaced the filler cap last night -still stinks this morning and it gets worse as I drive.I had to drive with both windows open and the fan on full to get rid of the smell.

I had the same with my old Elise when its lamba senor went-the engine was running hyper rich. I suppose the tuscan has a lamba senser?

Nice point this morning-despatch rider on a big Suzuki took a long hard look at the Tuscan at the lights on Ealing Common....and I mean a loooong hard look...... then grinned and did a big thumbs up.

I think I had this as well.

After I stuck the stereo in (interior out, thing sitting in garage for a week), it stank of petrol for a few days after.

I was paranoid that I'd drilled through the petrol tank somewhere somehow.

But it went away. I reckon it must have been what Koen was suggesting too.

had this on mone and as described only happens when filled to the brim and left in the sun.
The Tuscan has two lambda sensors and if one has gone it will overfuel and the smell of fuel is very strong as a result.

There is a vent line from the cannister which goes into the back of the air filter top housing, ie right under the dash. The connection on mine is broken so it's venting into the engine bay rather than the engine. I did try to stick it in with silicone but I think it's pulled back out as I'm getting fumes again. Maybe worth checking as you can't see it one the airfilter top cover is fitted.

Thanks again everyone-I have found a damp spot in the floor of the boot that is residual petrol - may have a leak in the fuel filler pipe.

Looks like a trip to Barnet.

When I bought my tusc I filled it up then petrol stink.
I traced the fuel lines and found the breather line to the carbon canister was not connected. Furthermore, the pipe was of the wrong size to connect to the tank breather pipe. Piss poor TVR!
I Chucked in a short length of correct size hose with a VW Polo fuel filter (they have universal fittings at both ends) as a link and took it back. Dealer fixed it(no longer TVR).
The worrying thing was it was second hand. The first owner could never have filled the tank or did the dealer fail to find that which took me all of three minutes. I had about two gallons of fuel swilling round the boot. EEEEK!
