Canyon CF SLX

Seriously close to pulling the trigger and ordering one of these:

Will exceed my original budget a fiar bit, but looks like an awesome piece of kit and considering the level of kit on it seems like very good value.

Any thoughts, advice or alternatives i should be lookign at very much appreicated.

I was gonna get the very same one but found a Canyon AEROAD cf di2 for £500 less in their outlet store.(and I didn't have to wait 10 weeks for delivery) They are amazing for the money no other company comes close on spec for the money except Cube but go for it the whole process was trouble free and was delivered within 6 days. http://www.canyon.com/_en/outlet/list.html?type=ra...

Pro level frame and excellent components. There are very few (if any) bikes that can match it for value.

I ordered that exact bike last week - was going to keep mum until it arrived and start a thread showing it off! Arrives in April or so (quite a long lead time at the moment for my size/colour combo), but very excited and in time for summer, and perhaps, the PH Cycling Weekend.

Don't hover over buy for too long. GBP is taking a tanking against the Euro and their prices keep increasing.

My advice would be to forget the SLX which apparently is marketing guff and no different to the ultimate CF.

Buy the £2k Ultimate CF with mechanical gears and save £1000. OR if you must have di2 then buy it for £1000 from Merlin and flog the ultegra gear, you would be £400-500 better off at the end of it. I've not ridden di2 but is have to really want it to pay a grand for it and a hundred grams off the frame (which is added straight back on with the heavier battery packs over mechanical group I bet)

It gets some stunning reviews, and I'm happy to pay my money, and take my chances. Though I could do as you suggest, it's a massive hassle to save £500 at the most. I have no doubt that the Ultimate CF is a great frame, but the SLX just seems really quite special and has upped the game from the old incarnation. Plus, I wanted Di2 out of the box.

Canyon claim that the reason the price has gone up versus the old SLX is that it uses a higher modulus carbon fibre; their profit margin hasn't been increased. It's an advanced, pro level frame - we'll have to agree to disagree that it's 'marketing guff'.

You may be thinking of last years model. The 2013 SLX has a frame weight of 790g vs 1050g for the Ultimate CF. The SLX also now has internal cable routing for both mechanical and Di2/EPS which the Ultimate CF does not. The geometry has also changed significantly
