Today whilst driving I noticed the heaters were not blowing warm air - the oil temp was normal. However, on my return journey the oil temp went into the red. On looking under the bonnet the radiator reservoir was showing empty which I've since topped up so I can check the level in the morning.

What are the consequences of this?

Update: It seems there is a leak somewhere as the reservoir was virtually empty this morning frown I'll be calling my mechanic Monday morning. Am I right in thinking it is OK to use for short journeys as long as I keep it topped up?

Get it looked at ASAP.

Short journeys should be okay, you probably can't do any more damage if it doesn't overheat again.

Cheers, ringing my mechanic tomorrow morning to see when he can look at it. Toying with the idea of getting the cm belt done at the same time.
