I used to read all my neighbour's old Readers Digest when I was a kid, and they were full of ads for US cars, air-brushed works of art with Rockwell-style homes, women in white gloves and men with pipes and trilbies. The artist was very lax with proportions - the cars looked 50% larger than real-life, and they all espoused the virtues of Supaglyde Hydramatic Sonicstar transmissions.(I recall that the ads for British cars were even worse for their stylism - even baby cars looked like they could seat a family of ten).
so glad someone had the good sense to stash a copy away.
