MOT laugh I could have cried.

Took the Cerbera for an MOT yesterday normal place that has passed it before so they know the car! or that's what I thought. In my mind the car is immaculate, engine, brakes chassis suspension etc are all spot on.
The only MOT issue I thought was the emissions as it has the emerald ECU and the supercharger on it.
Dropped the car off went back 1hr later.......
So when I was presented with the fail certificate which filled up the whole A4 page I nearly fell into the pit in the workshop. List as follows
Hazards lights failed: we could not find or did not know if it had a hazard switch so failed it. (hazards work fine)
Petrol Cap failed: Could not find petrol cap or open boot so failed on petrol cap seals. (boot switch works fine)
Exhaust to noisy: Sports pipe with CATS fitted which they passed on previous occasions. 105db on track day test at 1meter.
Failed on brakes: Unable to drive car as car is to noisy. so unable to road test brakes therefore failed brakes.
Emissions failed: passed at tickover. Failed hydrocarbon test as unwilling to rev engine to 2500rpm due to noise.
You would have thought I was shagging his missus, he had my phone number never called me to ask about any of the above, just presented me with the fail certificate.
Just couldn't be bothered with him didn't argue, paid my money drove the car about 1 mile down the road straight to the next MOT station weakened the mixture at 2500rpm with the laptop and it went straight through the MOT with no advisories.

Well what an utter bellend i would have educated him out side and defo not parted with any money to bad you cant name and shame so all us cerbera owners could do a drive passed to clear his ears

There is no noise test in the MOT!!!!
How can they fail on that?
\I said the same thing to him and he took the trouble to show me the actual guidance notes on the computer. How can they fail on that?
from memory its something like "The car should not be excessively noisy when compared to the manufactures original specification". No limits on DB just a guide. I have never heard a quiet Cerb. Read the notes winked ,then went back to his bungalow trousers round my ankles and finished the job I had started

the question for the tester is to show you the original factory figures - there won't be any and therefore it shouldn't be a fail

As many have said, there are lots of inconsistencies in the notes of the MOT. How can brakes fail, when they can't drive it, aren't supposed to drive it? I make a point of staying with my car for the duration of the MOT to keep an eye on things and have a chat with the tester. Last time i helped out, it was quicker and i wouldn't tell him how to get in the car or turn it on e.g. fuel pump
etc
+1.
etc The garage I use encourage the owner to stay and assist when anything "different" is MOTd - the owner said, he sometimes can't remember what knob/switch/sequence is needed, not just with TVRs. They also discuss anything that might be marginal. His bottom line was that most "enthusiasts" cars are a pleasure to see and MOT.
I guess some of us are rather lucky to have found such garages??
I sympathise with the OP.

Must have also been a back street idiot if he needed to drive the car to test the brakes, most half decent test stations have brake rollers, only ever hear of deceleration tests for 4wd vehicles
Depends if it has an LSD or not plus I would ask the presenter to stay with cars like that.Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
