Might seem like a no brainer, but the 'internet' threw up (heh) some interesting points.

I've two bottles of real ale in the cupboard. Both a year (!) out of date.

What'll happen if I drink them?

You will probably end up looking like Tubgirl...

(don't google that, especially if you're at work, have just eaten, have a significant other, have children in the house, or are on certain watch lists)

If I were a younger man, I'd Google it. But age brings with it some remarkable advance in common sense - when someone says DONT GOOGLE THAT! I don't Google that ; )

Have a small taste. If they taste OK, drink on. If they taste like sperm and dog poo, pour them down the sink.

Does the same apply to wine and port? I have a bottle of 1970 port and a magnum of 1987 Rioja. Neither has a best before date, so will I die if I open them?

Before we even go on, how was this allowed to happen?

There is no witty jibe for which "your mum" is not an appropriate retort.

Sounds reasonable. If I die I will have 'I followed internet advice' on my coffin lid. If I survive I'll vomit in your general direction.smile

Tastes like out of date beer.

My FiL has a habit of keeping anything comestible which doesn't grow legs and run away, and thus from more than one personal experience of being served OoD beer, I can reliably state that it tastes fkin awful. I always take my own supply now when visiting.

More than reasonable to ask.

Was sitting at the back of a cupboard full of booze - all ways fully stocked, just went unnoticed ; )
