Just curious as to whether new car sales will be affected, I mean 13 on a plate lots of people wouldn't by a house numbered 13 would they?

Well, dealers will be offering to put "62" plates on new cars sold March-September this year, so don't worry about it too much. I think I probably would, because despite not being superstitious in the slightest I can actually see it hurting residuals more than the car appearing six months older.

DVLA are letting people register 62 instead of 13 if they want.

You're in good company. Aston Martin's Works racing cars in the 30s were LM1 to LM12 and then LM 14 upwards; no LM13. They also stopped painting them British Racing Green and chose red instead.

That's not what we said, of course they're releasing 13, but most dealers will give the option of registering the car on a 62 plate.

Which is perfectly permissible anyway.. You're only not allowed to make it look younger that it is.

But it would still be a 2013 car!!

Personally it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, not superstitious at all.

Still the problem of the car having the dreaded 13 on the reg document.

Has that been confirmed?

[/quote]You're starting to get tenous by then, though. It won't have "13" on it, it'll say 2013, just another number and nowhere near as significant to that sort of person as driving around with "13" on their plates.

I mean, have you checked to make sure your VIN doesn't include the digits one and three next to each other?

Perhaps your paint code contains a 13?

Alfa, so I've heard, but then as I said above there's no legal reason why you can't do that anyway, so I guess on any unregistered car it's up to the buyer.

A lead-lined document folder kept at the back of the filing cabinet keeps all that under control.

What, those who actually want a new car now rather than six months away, for the sake of a vague superstition that they can choose to avoid? The masses of fleet buyers who make up a sizeable chunk of new UK car sales anyway? Nope, I think we'll be fine smile
