Hi all,

I have a 2011 RRS that suffers with low speed brake squeal that gets extremely loud, loud enough that it turns heads.......

Well prior to its first service in March 2012 I reported the condition to my local Dealership who said they would fix it at the
1st service, sadly they failed to do so and had another go when I moaned but it has never really gone away.

Now last week it went back in for its second annual service at the same Dealership and again its sad to report that although going through
the whole story again with the same guy it comes back just as bad.....now I've rang back to politely point out my disappointment and have been
buggered off basically by being told most RRS do it and its not something covered by warranty and in their opinion not worth fixing as the
brakes are now 60% warn.

I pointed out that its done it prior to the 1st service when in my eyes the brakes would have only been 30% worn but all to no avail.

Now I'm not a mechanic but even I would of thought a Dealership should be able to cure such a problem,am I wrong to expect what was a 55k
motor car not to make a noise like someone strangling NEXT DOORS CAT.

Can any one please tell me what needs doing to fix it or indeed confirm that it wouldn't be a warranty issue, maybe I expect to much of my local
Dealership but at their prices I do expect better.

Thanks for your anticipated response to what could easily turn into a rant.

Is it worth ringing LR customer services?.

Hi,I am a Land Rover Main Dealer Technician and can advise that their are two techinical bulletins that deal with front and rear brake squeal, depending on the chassis number of your vehicle. As you have complained about this problem since before the first service the dealer really should be fixing this problem.

Thank you very much for your reply that does put my mind to rest that it is an issue that should be remedied by my local Dealership
and clearly one that LR are aware of.

Out of interest do you know the cause or how to fix it.

Hi,If you have front brake front squeal & depending on your vehicle chassis range there are revised brake pads & spring kit.If it is rear brake squeal which only occurs in reverse then there are revised rear brake calipers. This again depends on chassis range.

Thanks you've been most helpful, the dealer now acknowledges the bulletins and is going to take it back in to check the pads etc.

The service manager seems to think though that its dependant on the pad serial number to whether they get changed or not...............

As I say thanks again for your assistance and be assured your comments or this forum have not been mentioned in conversation with any another
parties.

nb, It is only the front brakes.

Mine is a 2011 and i had front discs and pads replaced at 4k miles.
They came from the factory with the wrong pads that would heat up to much and warp the discs. Could be same problem?
Once changed no problems since.

Cayman.

Mine progressively got worse up to the first service where apon it was to be supposedly fixed but frankly they made it worse.

Having reported that it wasn't cured they had another go and to be honest it seemed slightly better and I was told most do squeal, well I've
put up with it progressively getting worse as the miles have gone on to a point that they said they would have another look at its service.

Well its had its service accompanied by a very hefty bill all to no avail, if anything its now worse than ever, the service guy tells me they've
put a chamfer on the leading edge of the front pads.

Chamfer........they may as well have painted them pink for the good thats done even the Wife's kicked off now so I'll just wait and see the outcome
of its next trip in to the Service Department.

It only appears to be the front pads with the most noise at low speed ie in traffic congestion, parking etc.

Do hope the front discs haven't warped as the Dealership has mentioned that one yet.

Many thanks again for the input it all helps and as I mentioned earlier at least they have now acknowledge the fact of LR's bulletins.

Well i think at the very least they should have changed the front pads as LR do know there was a problem.
They should be a pleasure to drive ,and the brakes should be silent on these . Good luck any way.

Nice one Cayman,

Agree entirely I think new pads is the way to go,if I was a betting man I'd bet that this Dealership will try it on and attempt to invoice me.

Sad that I 've continued to use them really as the Wife says take it somewhere else but thats a hour or two's drive which I shouldn't have to do when my
local is only 20 minutes away.

Best still I'm having some stone chips done and the wheels refurbed by their bodyshop at the start of March.....I must have gullible stamped on my forehead.

Had a look at the RRS link you posted so won't sleep tonight now worrying about what will fall off or fail next......great joy.

I'll post the outcome when and if its resolved it may in course help others.

UP DATE...........as promised.

My RRS has been in all week and has just returned fitted with new front discs and new front pads under warranty after LR agreed that it
was one of the now admitted chassis numbered vehicles that indeed carried a fault..........

So hopefully its cured but I won't be holding my breath as no doubt the rears will "pardon the pun" pick up where the fronts have left off,
also it has had all new radius arm bits and bushes fitted again under warranty as it appeared they were shot.......

Would have expected those to do more than 28k road only miles....?????

Oh well thats that currently so thanks to those who posted as with out your input and guidance I'd probably still be pissing about or heavily
out of pocket.

Hopefully that will close the issue.

Cheers Ed.
