I know - it's like the Holy Grail!

But at a gnat's crotchet under 30 notes, Serif are offering a Via package.

Just wondered if anybody had had any experience, or would I be totally wasting my dosh?

Depends on what you want from it.

I've just got the invoice for the one for our phone system at work.

That was £890K all in so quality will probably vary considerably.

Good point.

I'm only thinking that talking a load of garbage will get some ideas down for my work reports a lot quicker than my fingers.

It's not for anything critical.

Its the learning where the real money is.

Cheap ones take ages to learn whereas the expensive ones are pretty accurate but still return a list of up to 10 possibles.

Its amazing technology, its fascinated me since we started putting the IVR in.

www.speechworks.com may have consumer products, they are one of the leaders in this field...

I've tried various IBM Via Voice Applications over the years and still think it's a waste of time, I don't ever think it will truly catch on.

My mother has successfully used Dragon for a number of years (she has severe rheumatiod arthritis and therefore cannot type up her PHD thesis). Unfortunatley she does have the habit of talking to the computer as if its a person "I'll just get that phone, be back in a minute" appears numerous times in the essays before correction.

I've seen Dragon Naturally Speaking being used and I was impressed - apparently only took 20 mins to "teach" it
