Should I swap my Carerra 2S for a Gran Turismo or R8?
Discussion
I've had my Porker for a while (5 years) and love it. However I'm wondering if I should mix it up a little and swap it out. I've always liked the R8s and have a fondness for the GranTurismo but never driven the latter. I commute into London so my car is a weekend drive and mileage not an issue. I guess I could always move to the Porker Turbo too but not sure that would be enough of a change. Thoughts?

I think you might find you've spoilt yourself with a C2S, to a certain degree there is 911 and everything else.
Sure you'll find faster and more luxurious cars but nothing that's the complete package that a 911 is.
How about GT3...?

Im sure i will be back to 911s at some point, but for now, now i fancy a change, and a different 911 is not enough of a change, I imagine the OP is similar.
Different cars really, the R8 is a 2 seater 'sports car' that useable everyday, while the other was designed as pure 4 seater GT which got sportier over time.
The GT in S or sport is about 1800kg, which is about 250kg heavier than the R8, plus an extra 10inches on the wheelbase.
Evo did a big group test of The new 991, R8, GTR, XKR, Granturismo, M3 and the R8 came out on top.
The Maserati is meant to be an excellent GT, refined, comfortable loads of room for 4 adults. My choice would be dependent on how far you plan to travel and the miles you will do, and of course what sort of driving you will be doing in it, if you want something thats to waft about in with the occasional blast then Im sure the GT will be fine, yet if you plan to drive the car more keenly then you might find it a bit heavy and a little less sharp than some of the 2 seater alternatives.
If you want a toy, Id stay clear of the Maserati given its very much a GT.
Hope that helps, perhaps flit over to the Ferrari/Maserati forum for some owners review.

Gran Turismo is a deliciously gorgeous car but it's a big heavy GT.
I have an irrational dislike of Audi so will decline to comment on R8.
911 Turbo is (much) more of the same.
GT3 however is a completely different animal.
All IMHO of course...
Chap pulled up next to me at Doncaster Morrison Filling Station in a silver Gran Turismo the other day - absolutely gorgeous looking thing and sounded totally epic - never really considered one but the guy was very enthusiastic about it as it had rear seats for his kids!! - reg was R8 ,,, wonder what he owned previously
Was also considering a V8 Aston - must call around at the JCT Maser dept - it costs nothing to look ...

Thanks all. Food for thought. Fairly even split it seems. If only I could afford a stable I'd get both and keep the Porsche. Might have to go out and test drive a few more inc the GT3 and Aston. Issue is I tend to buy the first one I get into as to be fair they're all pretty good cars.
