Need networking help
Discussion
I am currently in the process of sorting myself out a wireless home network. I have a desktop PC with a Wireless USB adapter, a Laptop with 802.11G built in. The two machines are happily talking to each other and I have sorted out an internet connection and that all works fine.
I would like to be able to transfer all files or folders in both directions. For instance I have a load of MP3s in one folder on the Desktop, I would like to play them where the laptop is if that makes any sense. Would this need to be done by moving them first or can you play them from where they are?
Can someone please give me a very simple explanation of how you go about sharing files? I have poked about and found various panels that mention sharing but don’t understand how it works cos I am a PC plank.
The laptop is on XP Pro, the Desktop is on XP home if that makes any difference.
Remember the word “simple” used above
- thanks.

From one PC numpty to another
I asked a similar question not so long ago and even I managed to sort it.

In XP I think/ you just need to right click on the folders you want to share and it is pretty evident from there how to do it.

Ok you are most of the way there.
All you need to do is ensure that both the laptop and the PC have a common username and password.
E.g.
PC:
Username: bob
Password: the builder
Laptop:
Username: bob
Password: the builder
Now it's just a case of right-clicking the a folder on the PC and going to "Sharing and Security". You can now click "Share this folder" and the other machine should see it under "My Network Places".
Let me know if you need any more help.
