Coming into uni this morning i walked past El 'Beast.

I noticed that there was a blue chip on the driver's side door where a car had opened its door into him.

Now, i live in cctv'ed, security guarded and gaited joint with only a number of cars.

Workload meant that i had to get to uni quick so i only scanned the carpark. Surprise surprise! a punto with matching colour!

Do i:

1) get the cctv footage to confirm and decide from there.

2) find out where he lives, and get him to pay for it (after producing some evidence/threatening crim damage)

3) go biblical on his ass?

the choice is yours....

ps,

anybody know any good bodyshops in manchester?

By the book matey. Check the CCTV first, take it to him, get him to pay for the damage.

....Then get biblical on him!

Yep, CCTV first - if you can, try not to lose the flakes of the offending paint off the car in case there's any arguement. Cops can analyse if necessary and compare to his paint if it comes to the crunch.

Don't lose you're rag if at all possible.

Wait until you have conclusive proof then you can go all Samuel L Jackson on his/her ass...

But seriously, get it done on their insurance and don't get yourself in a pickle. Quite the little hothead of late aren't we

I can't stand the selfishness, thoughtlessness and lack of consideration for other people's property demonstrated by whoever did this

Another vote here for confronting the perpetrator with the CCTV. I would get a move on, though, as you don't know how often Security will cycle the tapes. You don't want the "evidence" overwritten with the following week's action or tonight's TV movie

Also, take a photograph of the scratch and the "suspect" car to record the matching colours. Regrettably, I don't think plod will be too interested in offering their forensic labs for something like this if they can't be bothered investigating stolen cars!

Let us know how you get on

Steps taken so far:

Notified cctv operator- they're looking into it

Taken photos of both cars (you can see the scratch on his where they have collided) including a camcording of them (including licence plates and date-stamped).

Formulated documents/"witnesses" which can vouch for the car being fully valeted prior to being parked in the carpark. Oh? did i mention that such a valet included a check on the paint and all minor scratches/marks included?

Covered all possible trips to outside the carpark with witnesses who can show that i never left the car.

Have a segment of paint from my car (of his) which has been placed in a sealed and marked bag...all caught on tape, which i would get privately analysed ()

He isnt going to know what hit him

A little OTT but i have enjoyed doing it to be honest

I'll reply asap Karl

Knowing Drag, he's probably been stalking this owner as she's actually a blonde stunner with a nice rack.

Thus, this 'fake' car denting incident is just his latest attempt at some va va voom!

Think you need a lawyer to sue his/her ass. Do you know any good legal types?

Wish i had the time to sort the twat out. This course is a killer, time-wise.

oh how i miss the LL.B

The frustrating thing is, the whole side of his door is full of little dents/marks (some rusted) from where he has smashed/dinted other cars

He'll be more careful when im finished with him

Ok. I'll tell you a story if you promise not to laugh. Deal?

i went to ask about the CCTV this morning and was met with the receptionist. The conversation went like this:

Drag: Have you had a chance to check the CCTV yet?

Receptionist: Erm...i'll get the manager

D: ...........

Hall manager: I've had a look at the cctv and to be honest there is nothing clear on it.

D: **getting pissed off but trying to keep calm. You kind of come to expect that CCTV never helps you**

What do you mean? i have driven it twice since i've been here. it happened in the car park!

HM: i also rang the owner of the almera who is denying all responsibility.

D: well give me his flat number and i'll sort it myself.

HM: im afraid i cant give you that information

D: ** however i expected such a response**

well in that case i'll climb onto his car and wait for him to come out, or i'll clamp him.

HM: you cant do that. This is private property!

D: Look i understand it was not your fault, but the least you can do is assist me when MY car was damaged in YOUR supposed secure carpark

HM: Shall i ring him again?

D: i suggest you do, and tell him that the owner will be issuing proceedings against him unless he comes down to discuss the matter

**at this stage i was thinking about the process i'd have to go through and how much time it would take!**

HM: **on the phone**

hello? can i speak to tsing "im a knob" ding (or something)

hello? hello?

**the twat put the phone down on her. at this point i was raging!**

HM: i'll ring him back in a second, in the meantime why dont you show me the damage?

**so we go outside**

D: there. you can see his blue paint.

HM: it doesnt look like a scratch to me

**and then begins to scratch at the mark with her sharp nails...taking the blue paint off**

D: **in a really rude manner**

well there goes my evidence!

HM: no, look!

And there it was. there was NO dent/scratch at all! he had struck my car and left paint on it, however it didnt break any layers of my paint and simply scratched off!

Joy was quickly followed with embarasment. i felt like a birk.

D: err, sorry for the trouble but it did look like a scratch and i didnt want to touch/scrape it incase i took his paint off my car.

HM: its not a problem, i would have done the same

D: i feel like a right idiot

HM: ...........

D: but, he did hit my car (pointing to his battered door) and clearly does fling his door open. tell him to be careful

HM: we have this disabled, bigger space which is currently not being used so i'll allocate it to you.

D: im not disabled nor do i want special treatment because of my car. i just want others to be more considerate

HM: we have no disabled residents. should we need the space we can contact you to move it.

D: cool

And there you have it. El 'Beast is unscathed and no april fools insight!

One thing learnt: Im still cock-sure. it will be my downfall LEARN!

ok, you can laugh

I had a very similar thing with my MG a while ago - I thought a WVM had scraped down my wheelarch and driven off. Well, he had, but the mark was easily erased with T-cut, and the paint/bodywork was otherwise completely undamaged. To think another few layers of paint and it could have been bodyshop time!

Oh, and rule number one - be sure of your facts before shooting your mouth off!

Glad to hear your car escaped, though

Glad it all worked out, wish the fecking scrapes and damage to mine would rub out with T-Cut.

Sadly not, and '79 El Beast will have to be treated to repairs and a front end respray some time in the next few months. Meantime I have to simply ignore it and try not to .... AND BREATHE.....
