Why do some people think it's ok to beep their horn outside other people's houses to announce their arrival or departure, to me this seem very inconsiderate. I understand why some people do it when trying to pick someone up, but it still seems rude to disturb everyone living near by because you don't want to get out and ring a door bell.
But i really struggle to understand why people need to beep when they are going, just why what are they trying to communicate? surely they just said bye to the person they are beeping at, do they really need to beep as they drive away? some times i see people do it while waving at each other.

Have you added up all the time you've been inconvenienced by people's horns in the last year?

Surely it's only a problem if they're doing it in the small hours? Otherwise, what's the harm?

I wish my life was so easy that this was something I could get annoyed about.

i'm with the op. it's unnecessary and annoying.

slightly off topic, I would hazard a guess that they are the same sort of people who walk into a pub / restaurant en masse and proceed to take over the place, moving chairs and tables around etc, just to accommodate themselves.

in other words, they are inconsiderate and lacking self awareness.

Actually, I agree. You're having nap and some taxi driver (its always taxi drivers here, I live in a student area) who can't be arsed to get out and knock starts beeping the horn. Grrr

It isn't considerate, but I've never thought to complain about it.

I does indeed sound annoying, but has only been brought to my attention by this thread, meaning it can't be a big issue to me really.

Fine if you don't work shifts. Not everyone gets to sleep at night and beep all day...

Pisses me off too. Normally it is sign of the person being selfish and lazy.

Yes, if you ever had to get up for work at 3.30am and some inconsiderate bd wakes you up at 11pm it does matter.

How did you put your bin out while he was having a party the week before? Did you go back in time?

laugh

OP: do you live in Somerset?

When we first moved here the first thing we noticed was how much people peep their horns as they drive round the village. It is of course de rigeur to peep on arrival at, and departure from any place where you are meeting others.

I'm fairly certain some of my neighbours peep their horn as a greeting when they drive past the houses of friends and families - it's bizarre.

When we enquired about this early on, the locals we asked said they'd never really noticed, but when we have visitors from outside the area, some have remarked on it too.

Perhaps it's just a convenient time to do a horn test?
A bit like fire alarms in supermarkets.
