I need to replace the sump gasket on my 450SE. Does anybody know if you can remove the sump without moving the engine? I think it looks as though it should be possible. Famous last words!

does on the 400, got to be really careful that you don't over tighten when doing back up or you'll end up with a cork and oil sandwich spilling out the sides!! lick

You can change it in situ. However, make sure you have a friend with small hands or a mechanically astute child to help with access to some of the bolts as you will find that there is limited room in places.

When I removed the sump on my old 450SE there was no sump gasket just a silicon sealant which I think was common practice at TVR. I cleaned the sump out in degreaser and removed the sealant and replaced it with a cork gasket. Had no issues with both aspects of sealing the sump. Don't be suprised to find that you don't have a cork gasket if you proceed.

i did mine last year and i have fat hands and arms lol and had no problems, it is a little tight when you pull the sump away from engine with the sump catching the oil pick up but will scrape past.
