Diesel convertibles make me want to puke.

The buyers probably have their reasons, but I just can't justify them.

IMO convertibles should only ever come in petrol, like the good ol days.

i think there are 2 kinds of people, those who hate how a diesel sounds and those who don't really mind (and maybe a 3rd really freaky type of person who actually likes it).

Anyway, I guess those who don't mind it cannot understand why those who hate it so much WOULDN'T buy the diesel cabrio when the tax, fuel costs, etc etc are perceived to be so much lower than petrol?

I don't want to buy one, but to a lot of people a convertible is just a car with a removable roof. Engine sound and thrill of driving aren't really relevant, just the ability to have no roof.

Or both maybe!

Above about 50mph, your average convertible sounds the same. You need something with a fruity engine/exhaust to hear it at 'proper' speeds.

Can think of better places to put £75k, assuming a production one ever sees the light of day.

Because not only do you want the authentic cowpat smells of the countryside but you want the Massey Ferguson soundtrack too. smile

I used to think 'why would you?' but lately I've found myself wondering whether at least there would be something vaguely interesting about driving a diesel.

I passed a house on the weekend with 2 diesel convertibles on the drive. An E350cdi and a newish 330d.
They're obviously fans of the diesel soundtrack.

I'm actually quite disappointed in myself, I don't know what this is! Someone tell me so I can Wikipedia it.

You enjoy canal boats & just want to replicate the experience in your car aswell hehe

I must admit I don't really get why you would buy a diesel soft top, but I suppose it's good that we all like different things, I love V8 coupes but some might say I waste too much money on petrol! Each to their own I think.
