At the moment we have 2 cars in the household (my BMW and the wife's Peugeot). Tomorrow we are picking up a new (to us) Audi A4 which will eventually replace the Peugeot as my wife's main car. However we wish to keep and continue to use the Peugeot as a station car until the end of April.

I'm just wondering the best way to go about sorting the insurance.

My thinking is that we will put the Audi in my wife's name and take out a new insurance policy in her name (with me as a named driver). Then, when we come to get rid of the Peugeot we will simply terminate that policy.

My only thought is whether this would affect her NCB (currently 5 years, 6 in June). Presumably by taking this approach (and not insuring the Audi with her current insurer) she will in effect lose 6 months NCB (as the new policy will start from tomorrow with 5 years NCB again).

The reason for going with a new insurer is that they seem to be a lot cheaper than her current insurer for better cover.

Is this correct and am I missing anything? Is there any issue with having NCB on 2 different policies?

Many thanks in advance

You can only use your NCB on one policy at a time.

I can't believe I didn't know that!

Time to work out the best way of dealing with this, given that the old car will only be around for a couple of months.

Thanks for the heads up smile

Ask your insureer if they can add additional cars to the policy. Its what I have done previously. Alternatively some insures will match NCD on a second car
