I'm pretty sure this is the worst place to ask as I'm sure I know the answer already

The wife and I are looking to replace our horrid POS Vauxhall Insignia but we have agreed to replace it with 2 cars as currently, we struggle with 1 if it needs servicing or if it were to break.

So, we have a dog, she's not big but I point bank refuse to have a dog on the back seat, we are likely to get another this year so an estate/4x4 is an absolute must!

So far, we have the following options;

BMW 335d + 200SX/hothatch
Cheap shed estate/disco 2 + BMW Z3 M Coupe

So, with a total of about £16k to spend, we need two cars, one practical and one more fun.

I don't want to have an absolute shed, nothing more than 80k miles and no less than £3k if we go for the expensive silly car and the cheap bus.

Oh, the other thing, one needs to fit in the garage and its 4.7m x 2.3m

What would PH do?

Mx-5...

No, seriously. You could get a mk5 GTI Golf. We can get our big collie into the back of that. Plus they do decent mpg. Spend the rest on a skyline/mental 200sx. You might even have some change left over.

Cheap dull diesel shed (Peugeot 306 HDi will cost you less than a grand) plus the Z3M. The estate will get trashed by the dog, but will cost little to run, drink little fuel, and will get you £200 when you scrap it in 3 years time. Massively cheap motoring.

Have exactly the same requirements and we ended up with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and an Impreza P1.

Forester (or other Subaru estate) for £5k and £6-8k on a Monaro, then allow £2k for maintenance, holiday etc. 2 dogs might = an estate?

Or maybe a 350z for £5k, then pocket the 6k change.

final idea is to combine it all and get fast estate. S4/S6 avant + a spacious garage smile
