Recently put a can of BG244 fuel system cleaner in to my 2.2 diesel avensis and I think the car is quieter, smoother, more responsive and fuel economy seems better too.

Is it really that good or is it in my head?

Not sure about BG244, but I understand BG44K was developed for use in Audi RS4 in USA, and also used by Lexus dealers over there. So may not be 'in your head'.

I use Millers Diesel Ecomax, which does the same thing basically, except you use it more often.

My fuelly records say my fuel economy is 3mpg better with it than without it.

Thanks for the replies - I was drowning in tumbleweed there. My first topic too.

I recently used the petrol version in my mx5. It used to puff a tiny bit of smoke on startup and on the over run, nothing unusual. Put this stuff in and after it had all gone through everytime I started from stone cold it would smoke pretty bad, getting worse each time and eventually took 4/5 miles to clear. Then the car was sold on to a we buy any car type company. Might be a coincidence but I'm reluctant to try it on my current 160000 mile old discovery for those reasons.

Guessing this is yet another variety of snake oil that you add to the fuel?

This is a true story, It was developed by the american Audi engineers who had a slight problem with the fuel system on the RS4, they took the unusual step or rather than trying to investigative the cause of the issue and design a fix they instead went about experimenting with milking snakes for their oil to see what effect it would have on the fuel system, much to everyone's surprise they found one that was just right for removing carbon build up, it was so powerful that even when watered down with gallons of petrol it could instantly remove carbon deposits that were much too suborn to be removed by pressurised petrol alone.
Of course there was a conspiracy to keep this from the public, Several Audi executives, as well as some from several other manufacturers including Lexus met together with some representatives from the oil industry and they decided to cancel the project and destroy all the records, because they were worried about the affects on new car and petrol sales. The research leaked out and was picked up by a previously unknown fuel additives company.
