Help please!!

Driving yesterday the oil pressure light flickered at idle and the oil gauge showed approx 5psi at idle and around 20psi at 2000rpm. Usually the pressure is 15-20 at idle and anything upto 60psi when cruising.

Has anyone experienced the same problem and if so how they fixed it. There is sufficient oil in the car and it is not burning it, no leaks and no change in performance or noise. My first thought was a sticking oil pressure relief valve. I have been quoted around £200 for a replacement valve and pump which seems a little high! Does anyone know a place to get them from at a reasonable price?

Thanks for any assistance.

Oil pressure light coming on confirms it's a real pressure loss not just a gauge fault. So I'd be cautious about driving the car like that, and definitely wouldn't push the engine hard.

I found that TVR dealers tend to be slightly cheaper than Land Rover dealers for these parts. Would echo Pete and say don't drive the car, it could be a sticking OPR valve and you can get kits for this that are cheapish, but I was told not to bother as the reason for the sticking is usually the valve bore being scored.

You could always give someone like Dave Batty a call and see what he thinks and how much he could do it for.

Cheers guys. It is looking like the OPR valve is suspect. But I agree it is best to change the whole front cover and OPR.
