It's aimed at competing with the Caymen
However I feel it will have the same problem with the Caymen does.... That despite being a great car it is just saying I can't afford a 911 ( not always true) and I feel the Alfa will just be the same. I can't afford a Ferrari..

what, all of them? The blurb about the car sounds seriously promising, not least because it's RWD. It has all the credentials to be very successful. I too am a bit dubious about the 'under £50,000' price, I'm sure the 1.7 engine is very talented, but for that money I'd want a V8 or something super-tuned underneath a-la BMW M3.
I think the selling out and the price of the 8C gave Alfa the confidence to put this model into production, although I hope this isn't a 'make or break' car for them.
Is this the one that's tied up with Mazda? That doesn't half remove a bit of glamour in the Alfa name...

Yeah, because that really hobbled the Dino 246GT, didn't it? It's aimed at competing with the Caymen

No, that's the forthcoming Spider. This is intended to grab the attention of the US before the Spider goes on sale a year or so later. The Spider will have the same engine, and you can bet that in order to cash in on the hype, it'll look not dissimilar too.christofmccracke said:

Cayman/911 yes:

vs
570hp/c. 1,450kg/5 ltr n/a V8/£175k+
In the instance of porsche, you are talking about 2 models with very similar philosophies & looks, same basic engine blocks, similar figures and one carries a £20k premium over the other so they are almost competitors and someone who buys the cayman could be accused of buying the cheaper one. So although it's arguably the better drivers car, I see & agree with your point about the cayman
In the instance of the alfa/ferrari however, two totally different cars at massively different price brackets, one delivering performance through light weight, the other through enormous power output, one coasting 3 or 4 times the price of the other - I just don't see it
I have a brand new aston v12 apart from my DD and I'm very much looking at the 4C as an additional 'fun car' - I'm very excited to see it in the flesh and won't worry remotely that people will think I've gone for an inferior car as I can't afford the one I really want - tbh, I find your observation a touch strange. To me, the 4c is the car lotus should have been making

I don't think I've ever looked at a car being driven and thought 'they can't afford an x'
What an odd comment.
I know! There's some very odd thinking that goes on in the heads of some people on here (and Clarkson, come to think of it). What an odd comment.
The other main one is the notion that anyone who says anything bad about an expensive car or cars in general must be 'jealous'. Has it occurred to them that they may just not like you for other reasons?
I know one guy who has many, many utterly lovely cars. Unfortunately he drives them like a complete and utter
- weaving in and out of traffic, deliberately blocking exits and entrances to make a clean getaway when the lights change, flashing his lights and leaning on his horn whenever anyone has the temerity to do a mere 90mph in front of him in the outside lane of the motorway, parking diagonally across 2, 3 or even 4 bays 'because my car is more expensive than theirs/I don't want it getting scratched.'And yet for some reason, despite his overt cockishness, he assumes everyone who he manages to p
s off must be 'jealous' of him and his car.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
