For me it is surprisingly ......this.

It was very well made, did everything well (roof down summer fun and 4WD in winter).
It was a bit of a compromised drive out of the box but after a full suspension upgrade (ARBs, coilovers, uprated wishbnes etc), stainless exhaust system and a remap to circa 270bhp it was quick and handled quite well.

I had to sell it as soon as I jacked the hairdressing in wink
Seriously though, two kiddies would not fit in the boot.

I actually miss it as much as my old TVR!
In many way the TT was better (quicker, less twitchy and much better built).

So, what do you look back on and miss?

My pristine 205 GTI 1.9. God it was good.

It nearly killed me but I loved that thing more than any man *should* love an inanimate object.

You know, that is probably my favourite car that I've driven a lot but never owned.

I can see why you'd miss yours.

I really miss my Fiat Coupe 20v turbo plus. Sure it had many flaws and wasn't always that reliable, but as a complete package it was great. I've had it for 7 years and it still felt special at the end. It had a kind of mini supercar feel to it (may sound odd, but not many cars have given me that feeling). It had some upgraded bits like bilstein shocks with eibach springs, hybrid turbo, chipped, custom exhaust, etc. It really sounded fantastic and was plenty quick.

Why did I sell it? Well I thought I wanted a change after all those years. The current S2000 is a much better handler and definately more exciting to drive but it doesn't feel as special to me and isn't as nice when just poodling along.

My old astra.

Along with fitting all the gsi spec bits, the original 1.6 8v lump was swapped by myself for a Cavalier 4x4 2ltr turbo engine running just over 300bhp. Every nut and bolt on that car had my finger prints on it by the end when it was broken up and sold in bits due to my first sons arrival.

I miss my BMW 540iA Touring more than the rest. I still hanker after my old MX-5 and 911 at times.

The Chim, as great as the memories are, wouldn't be great to have now as weekends are for my wife and daughter, not spent fixing/improving a car.

My old Capri 2.8 Injection Special

I need to scan my old photos, so this one will have to do for now. Identical, but for the number plate (B720 TAA)

I'd previously run a 1.6 Laser for many years. I loved that car but I knew the Capri really needed a V6 under the bonnet. 160bhp may not sound much now, but it was perfect in that car. This was the eary-mid 90s, and the Capri was pretty uncool then, but I didn't care. I traded it for another 2.8 Injection Special, with lower mileage and a bit less rust. That one was silver though, and didn't suit the look quite as much.

I'd love the money and space to have another one as a weekend toy alongside my Mustang (which is the modern equivilent, IMHO)

I know what you mean about spending time with family, much more important really.

However wink
I really do ache to own a mid to late 80's 911 some day but perhaps the reality would burst my bubble smile

I really hope not!!!

Tricky, my strongest emotional attachment was arguably to my Quantum. I still own that, but it's been laid up for some years and has seen better days now.

In terms of the combination of character, memories and sheer driving pleasure it probably has to be this one, though:

After considerable work I got it handling well, it sounded fantastic and yet it was usable enough to get out and enjoy on a regular basis.

That is a really cool looking car. I've always loved the look of these. I've looked at buying them many times but something else has always come along!

The car I miss the most is my MR2 Turbo. It had everything. From the moment I saw it, I knew I had to have it. I can still smell that interior. I loved getting into it, feeling so low down to the ground. Looking over my shoulder and seeing that wraparound rear screen. It had a sticker on it from 'Indy Car Sales Rothienorman', the original importer. They're now defunct, but I kept the sticker there as a historical detail. I loved the drive, the handling was fantastic, the engine was incredible. The chorus of noises that took place behind your head were fantastic, every drive was an event. I used to sometimes dream it was a Lancia 037 and I was Walter Rohrl. The seats were amazing too. I'll never forget the first proper drive I took it on, down to Wetherby services to collect a bass guitar. It really did shift.

It wasn't perfect. I only slid once in it, in thick frost at about 15mph on a roundabout. It could be a bit funny with negative cambers, especially on the rear N/S wheel. But the steering rack was quick and the balance was commendable; it would tidy up from oversteer very quickly. It wasn't a car you could drive at pace with your brain disengaged. You had to be relentlessly aware when making progress. That was part of the charm. It needed cash spent on it too, when I sold it it had some unsightly rust developing on the bottom of the O/S door from a small nick in the paint I'd missed when I bought it. It also had a week of MOT left and would have undoubtedly needed something. But I loved driving it, I loved the connection you felt with the car and the road. It had Jinba Ittai in a way that an MX5 can only dream of.

That does look nice! And I bet 420bhp made it a lot more fun as well biggrin I've been to Stelvio in my current S2000, but found the small engine pretty hard work on the steep bits. It's hard to get into vtec after a sharp hairpin and it can feel pretty gutless. I bet a supercharger helps a lot biggrin The cornering was loads of fun though! I've done the same trip in an E92 M3 as well and that was a bit more usuable.

I genuinely miss my Preg Volvo 850 estate. Was only the 2l model, but it was reliable and practical and (relatively)cheap to run.

Violet, I wish I'd never put you in as part of the govt. scrappage scheme against a brand new Audi A6 Avant 3l tdi quatro etc (which i then sold <6 months later....ouch).

Wish I'd kept the volvo as a beater.
