I have a small oil leak from one corner of my sump. Obviously a replacement sump gasket is the solution, but this is not a quick and easy job on my car which will be attended to in the spring. But I would like to stop dripping oil every time I park up in the mean time.

Are there any sealants that I can apply externally that might stem the flow?

Is something like this likely to hold, even if only for a few weeks?

or this?

Either should do the job provided the area is cleared of oil, and remains clear of oil whilst it is left to dry. Would be best cleaned with a solvent, but if the oil is likely to seep through after application I don't know how well it would bond, if at all.

Good luck!
