Just had the mailshot through.
Looks interesting, but expensive compared to my favoured Polk soundbar systems.
Oh, and to get 5.1 you need their sub and 2 little play:3's
SO,
PlayBar £600
Sub £500-600
2xPlay:3 £500
That is a serious amount of money, the setup you could do with that in a traditional way would far out perform the Sonos combo.

I just got that same mail
£599 for the PlayBar (think that's what it's called).
Must admit, I'm just completely renovating my whole house and was in 2 minds about a soundbar and ceiling speakers with sonos in them. This has definitely cracked it (and I won't lie, looks pretty good too).
will be sure to have a listen before I buy though which will be a month or two away anyway

I'm quite interested in this too. I don't have a NAS so is there a way to stream cloud stored music to sonos ? I use google music on my phone which I'm pretty sure doesn't work with sonos but is there another solution ? Amazon mp3 only works in the US from what I've just read ?
I have a NAS drive attached to my network, but to be honest I use napster to stream almost any music directly, definitely more used than playing from my nas drive! Also I have an iPhone, and with the latest software upgrades I can play through Sonos any of the music i have stored on my phone/iPad/tablet etc etc.

Sounds good but my phone is limited to 16Gb so ideally I'd like a cloud storage solution if there is one out there. Maybe the amazon method will be available in the UK soon enough if it's already working in the US.It seems more about applying Sonos technology to a speaker purpose rather than a purist Sonos deployment. However, they've done it their way and trying to do something different with it.
Should be interesting to see it in action, especially with a Sub. Might be tempted to get the Playbar and move the Play 5 into another room (I've been eyeing up another one anyway)

It is a serious amount of money, but Sonos always has been. I run 2 Play 3s in stereo in my kitchen and it is great, but I could get much better sound for £500 if I wanted to. What I wouldn't get is something so compact, speakers that don't have to be wired to one another and ones that I could feasibly use in two separate rooms if the need ever arose.Looks interesting, but expensive compared to my favoured Polk soundbar systems.

I think that this soundbar will sell well. The main market will probably be people who will use it on it's own or with a sub, but the full 5.1 is attractive as well because it is the best option available that has wireless rear speakers.

You can pretty much stream any music service of note, every internet radio station and your own collections on NAS/PC/Mac. Can also play direct from your iOS devices with music on them.http://www.sonos.com/music
I have an Apple Time Machine with my library permanently on, plus Spotify and Rhapsody. I also use the radio extensively.
My Android controller screen looks like this: (the functionality on it is just fantastic and extremely well thought out)
Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
