Photo organising software

Having just backed up all 18,000 of my photos I realise I need some software to basically put them into date folders.
The best option would be within date order, either per day or per month.

Does anyone know of annything that can do this automatically, or do I have to manually tramsfer them all.

I'm sure there are cheaper ways but I use Media Pro from Phase One, you can search by date taken, date modified, camera, keyword, location, all sorts.

Lightroom without question. I use it to library 120000 pics; wouldnt consider anything else. Period.

Another vote for Lightroom, you can get 30 day free trial from Adobe to see if you get on with it.

Despite being an avid Mac user, I tried Aperture and just couldn't get on with it, but it does a similar job that LR does, OSX only though

Lightroom or picasa.

I have windows put my shots into date labelled folders straight off anyhow.

Blimey I must be old school - All my photos Are stored in named Albums everytime I transfer them from the camera......

First digital camera I got was in 2000......... (OK it was a point and squirt not an SLR but the biggest card I had was 4mb at the time)

I exported all my pics to a hard drive using photoshop elements, it just stuck them all in one stream rather than folder! My main problem was finding all the Pics, my office PC has been changed a few times over the years and each time a backup of the last was placed on the new one. There are photos everywhere!
