Bizarre roadsigns
Discussion
I posted a couple in a meant-to-be-humorous thread last year that was met with characteristic PH humourlessness - mind you I did put it in SPL
.
So I'll post them again. Not quite the same thing, as they are normalish UK signs, but in which two things about their design contradict each other.
1. Leading to a small roundabout on a private road, there's a roundabout sign:

So it's like the usual sign:

But round, not triangular.
Now, while a triangle is a warning, a red ring means "don't do this", so what is this sign trying to tell me? Don't use the roundabout? Don't treat the roundabout as a roundabout? Or, don't travel clockwise, i.e. do travel anti-clockwise?
2. On a more satisfyingly simple note, I occasionally encounter this sign at roadworks:

So I guess this means I must not allow oncoming traffic to give way to me?
Or I am not allowed to give way to oncoming traffic?

It just means that the traffic from the direction off the black arrow has right of way.So I guess this means I must not allow oncoming traffic to give way to me?
Or I am not allowed to give way to oncoming traffic?
No, you've missed my point. It's in a red ring, so it means a prohibition of the traffic that has the right of way having the right of way, according to the size and direction of the arrows. If you get me.
It should be the other way up and mean you don't have the right of way, or it should be this sign:

...which means you do have the right of way.

There are probably some installation instructions on the back of the roadworks sign, which say:-
