After asking advice about buying an Aston Martin I was advised to purchase Grants book. After carefully reading the book I decided with my budget a 2006-2007 Vantage would be the car.

I saw a couple of AMV8 at Grange Brentford, one a 2006 black leather 10k mileage, and a 2007 kestrel leather 12k,couldnt decide if I was brave enough for the kestrel leather interior (my boxster was terracotta. Then to make me decide the black leather was sold, and I am so glad because I love the kestrel. The car was in fantastic condition as you would expect, a few stonechips and there will be a lot more by the end of the year.

Tried to haggle but to no avail, I had done my homework and knew Grange were a decent bunch, paid the full price but got 18 month warranty.

I still can't believe that I have purchased an Aston and when I lock the door and walk away I always look back and smile to myself.

Unfortunately its not my daily drive as driving to Bermondsey from Surrey is full of traffic and humps but every weekend off we go, just to here that sound.

Fuse 22 out already.

Brakes squealing when warm ?

Thermostat goes to middle when normal driving but drops below middle and cold when motorway driving. Normal ?

That looks pukka.
Brake squeal is normal, especially if driven by Miss Daisey, use hard and it will go.
Sounds like your themostat needs changing, its a common fault, temp gauge should be dead centre all times, Welcome to the Aston World, you will love it.

My temperature does not move off the centre once it's warmed up.

Stand on the brakes a few times, they have most likely got some rust on them, that's all.

I'd say given the freezing temperatures at the moment, that's pretty accurate at motorway speeds at the moment. I wouldn't concern myself too much.

Now you need...

A DBS gear knob and some of Tony's heater & stereo knobs...

I agree that you should get the temp issue looked at. Whatever the ambient temperature the needle should sit in the middle of the dial. Enjoy your new p&j.

Congratulations, Kestrel Tan is a brave choice, but A.M. used it as the concept/launch car's interior colour for a reason glad the guide helped you find the right car/ deal for you, I know what you mean about looking back and realising it is your own stunning Aston you are looking at
The temperature gauge does sound like the thermostat ( it's covered on page 249, under the Specialist view) but hopefully the dealer will sort that. With bit of luck the brakes may well just need some decent hard use to sort out the squealing issue, a few tips on this on that same page

Where in Bermondsey do you work? I live there and there's a few Astons around, including a DBS that never seems to move

Disagree on the temp i'm afraid. Completely normal for it to drop slightly below the middle when bashing down a motorway, particularly at this time of year.

If it does it during normal driving however, then yes, potential issue.

Without having driven mine in this cold weather, common sense suggests you'd be right

Not sure how useable, accurate or calibrated the gauge is really, it's pretty much 'water at temperature or not, overheating or not'.

Yes but Nat suggests it goes down to the quarter mark-ish, so certainly worth checking with the dealer IMO, so that if there is a problem it is seen that it has been there from the start, of course it is probably fine if it has just been fully prepped, but better safe than sorry

My temp gauge stays in the middle....

If the water is getting cooler due to cool air flow through the radiator like on a motorway, the thermostat should close slightly and restrict flow through the radiator..thus keeping the engine temp stable.... It's what a thermostat does

Water temp itself, which is what the gauge is reading, should remain stable... It's the flow through the radiator that alters..

I only drive my Freelander to work, dare not let my staff know I have a Aston Martin, how can I plead poverty when they ome cap in hand wanting a pay rise.

The thermostat is faulty, mine did the same after being stable at mid point, once i had it changed( cost about £70) back to middle again no matter how hot, cold, fast or slow..does not move at all. it is a well known issue
