I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2000 MX-5 IN RED KNOWING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PAINT AS THE CAR WAS OTHERWISE GOOD,AND LOW MILAGE.
The horizontal surfaces are worse than the vertical ones with laquer peeling off the front bumper in particular.Bonnet and boot have large areas of white spots.
Can I remove the laquer and leave the paint underneath or what.
Would a vinyl wrap work as an alternative to a relaquer/ full respray?

Thanks

Needs a proper respray, you can't peel the lacquer off & just relacquer. The affected areas will need sanding back to a sound base.
No idea about wraps, other than if the base its being put on is coming away I doubt the wrap will last long.

There's that plastidip (I think it's called that now) which is another option.

The paint under the lacquer has no gloss so no matter what you would need to reapply the lacquer. If it was a small area and you're very careful you might be able to sand the area down to the base coat, buff it flat and apply lacquer over the top again. It sounds like it's beyond that though, I'd only try it on the corner of a spoiler or a door handle etc.

Only cheap option is the rat look i'm afraid.

Vinyl is expensive. Just paint it with foam mini rollers using enamel paint. Chose a good colour . Job done for £30
